That is nothing new though.. well off kids whose parents could afford out of state tuition have been going to ole miss and Alabama for decades. I think part is getting out of state but also the Greek systems at those schools.

This is the case across the board. I went to one of the top prep schools in the South in another state and almost everyone went out-of-state for college. Most people from my home state who I met at LSU were also from prep schools/boarding schools though.

LSU should definitely focus on these kids in state, but out-of-state too. It's the most strategic way to increase our endowment and donations since you're tapping into generational wealth.

Which Dean? LSU has more than a dozen Deans.

I would be curious to know how much of that is an LSU problem and how much of that is simply "I want to go to either of those schools because money is not an option and I want to get out of Louisiana."

You need an 18 or so on your ACT to get into Ole Miss

I think he meant to talk shite about President Tate who has shown zero interest in pushing a DEI Woke Agenda.

I have known all of the previous Deans of the Vet school on a first name basis. DEI and wokeness were my experiences with the PREVIOUS Dean. In my interactions with the current Dean he is the biggest advocate for the accomplishments of the Vet School and the University as a whole. Even run into regularly in Death Valley at games. The previous Dean only spoke about the diversity in the schools staff and students, NEVER mentioned achievement.

The funniest part of this is him acting like that’s solely an LSU problem. When I was in college in the late 00s the vast majority of the people I was around on a daily basis were from Texas and Georgia.

Upper middle class kids go out of state all the time all over the country. It’s not a bad thing. I would argue that large groups of our young people seeing and living in different parts of the country at that age is a net positive for the country as a whole.

It's easier for Louisiana students to get scholarships out of state than from LSU these days because LSU prefers to offer students out of state with the assumption Louisiana students will come to LSU with TOPS.

Tate, from all of the hand wringing that went on when he was hired, has been amazing. He actually gives a shite about the university. I and a lot of other people were completely wrong about him. Landry just wants his 2 minute fox news soundbite.

My son is one of them- Alabama has offered him a full 5-yr ride as a National merit finalist, total scholarship near 200k
LSU: 16k over 4 years (plus TOPs which doesn’t come from LSU) = barely covers tuition

Agreed. Tate has done well in my opinion and obviously loves his job. I've never seen a President as involved and all around campus as much as he is.
