There are other races you know. Othello is a muslim (Moor).

But read the article

quote:

Professor Farah Karim-Cooper, co-director of education at Shakespeare's Globe, said: 'It is really reductive to suggest we are 'assaulting' or 'canceling' Shakespeare. 'We are holding conversations about race and diversity. If you knew your Shakespeare, you'd understand that Shakespeare is robust, enduring and that he can handle this. He's not going anywhere. We love him too and no we are not saying he was a racist! 'To suggest that we are saying Shakespeare was racist when we know actually very little about the man himself - I mean scholars are still debating as to whether he was Catholic or Protestant - is just food for a superficial culture war that frankly we are not interested in participating in.'

Muslim is not a race but I get your point.

Has any of our Cancel Culture Defender Squad been by to tell you:

This isn’t a big deal!
Why do you care anyways!?!
Who cares! No one watches Shakespeare plays!
It’s one theatre no one has ever head of, c’mon.

Then when they really get desperate, “Melt”

I mean, what is the point of the story? That they cannot prove that Shakespeare was racist, but since he was white, that he probably was?

Putting current standards on historical cultures is ridiculous.

No, the current standards are ridiculous, actually. Shakespeare had more truth in his little cod-piece than modern critics have in their mawkish constitutions.

This is a great point. “We know little about the man but since we’re obsessed with race we’ll assume he was racist but trust us we aren’t canceling him just maybe some censoring”

And of course Anne Boleyn

You know, it always struck me as a terrible tragedy that she was beheaded.

And absolutely awful crime against potential historical comedy.

Just think, if Henry instead, had had her lowered into a big pot of oil suspended over a roaring fire, he could have casually strolled by and and quipped,

“Oh look, it’s my ex wife Anne...

Boilin’.”

Based on today’s standards everyone and everything before 2020 is racist.

Shakespearean scholar Sir Stanley Wells said he 'would not' represent Shakespeare as racist and argued the 'contrast of light and dark' could refer to behaviour, rather than appearance.

Sounds like someone in that article had some sense.

I don’t think the others even feel any guilt for their atrocities.

Others argued in the journal that it was not a question of 'either/or', and that there was space to study Shakespeare alongside other authors dealing with more modern themes. Ayanna Thompson, professor of English at Arizona State University and president of the Shakespeare Association of America, recommended Toni Morrison, August Wilson, W.E.B. Du Bois and James Baldwin, among others.

First they’ll say they can lessen the time Shakespeare gets, but then he’ll get less and less time and more and more vilified until he’s dropped in favor of a “trans woman of color” for being an old white racist.

If you don’t believe in the slippery slope by now you are either a drooling moron, or complicit.
