A federal judge on Tuesday said a Georgia sheriff’s plan to post “no trick-or-treating” signs at sex offenders’ homes was unconstitutional.

The ruling comes after three registered sex offenders sued Butts County Sheriff Gary Long to stop his office from the practice, which began last year with deputies planting signs that urged Halloween revelers against stopping.

Seems a little over the top.

1. These individuals whereabouts are common knowledge. Anyone in the area should know if there is a convicted sex offender on their street or in their neighborhood.

2. Trick or treating doesn't involve actually going into someone's house.

It's a good ruling.

Those no trick or treating signs are not part of the terms that sex offenders are subjected to in a court of law and a complete farce of ex post facto nonsense.

Not only that, it is forced speech that from the government that intrudes on private property and compels free men to display a message that they disagree with and that is a violation of the first amendment.

If the sheriff wants to put up those signs, he's free to lobby the legislature for it and then file briefs in court supporting it if such a law is applied retroactively.

Why is it just for sex offenders? Why not have some murderer, assault, or domestic violence signs printed up, too?
Maybe a few drug dealer signs, while they are at it. I bet the more you buy, the better the price. For the signs....not the drugs.

Don't know about signs, but they did (do?) have a very up to date list compiled that you can obtain.

Yea I have a couple of trick or treaters and I wouldn't want those signs in my neighborhood, especially considering the majority of sex offenders are guilty of fricking a teenager, not a kid under 13.

Just Simply leave the lights off and we make sure our kids only go to houses with lights on skeery decorations and shite.

It's not rocket science

Everywhere is supposed to have that list. I would bet, like you said, some are more accurate/up-to-date than others, though.

Wellll I like the ones that are freeing prisoners for marijuana crimes and juveniles. Also the ruling that life in prison isn't absolute for juveniles. They can be paroled.

shouldnt have been crimes to start with though.

I'm talking extra punishment laws. Like..if randomly the state of louisiana needs money, so they retroactively put in a law where anyone ever convicted of a traffic violation must pay an extra $100 a year for road privilege or some stupid shite they do designed for shakedowns

I edited after you posted.

It's also forced speech from the government that intrudes on private property and compels free men to display a message that they disagree with and that is a violation of the first amendment.

And like the poster said above, how are sex offenders any different than murderers, drug dealers, gangbangers and thieves? Aren't they just as violent?
