Basically you can't use bigoted language anymore with impunity. That's about what these rants boil down to.
But, you can. You can say just about anything you want and not have any legal repercussions.
Will some folks be mad? Probably. But they cant deny you any rights over you saying queer or any other word deemed unsavory.

I'm not sure I have a problem with disliking another group of people. I have a problem with people disliking them, saying they dislike them, then backtracking when they realize it is going to hurt their pocketbook.
Just own it.

The toothpick in the mouth was the cherry on top. Where is Sevier County? It looked like a county meeting from the '50s.

Bull Connor County, son.

They were voting to ban the sock hop later in the night.

There are plenty of consequences outside of legal ones I'm referring to.

I actually asked a gay friend of mine yesrday if queer was considered a bad word to use.
He said no. I'm not joking.
Did you ask if saying we have a queer running for president and thats as ugly as it gets is OK?
When somebody called Kennedy a Catholic running for president in the same type of context despite Catholic being a perfectly fine word it was used as a pejorative. When you can't pick this out you have to be pretty thick.
The commissioner is a bigoted old man not exactly rare in rural Southern Appalachia. He does have the right to express his ideas though.

I don't know, but I'd bet that fellow whose 7 year old son has been taken from him by the power of the State and is going to be chemically castrated and changed from Andrew to Luna (by the child's MOTHER!) against his wishes, beliefs, and convictions would think he's lost rights and is a little more than "put upon".

Is queer a bad word now? It's part of the LGBTQXYZ acronym.

That "hard R" crap is pretty silly. Your typical Mississippi segregationist politician didn't sound out the R, but it's not like they get a pass.

Yep, queer is in there. Or is this another case where only a queer person can say the q-word?
Yes, Queer is in there, but not all of those letters mean the same thing or can be used interchangeably. Buttegieg is gay, so G would be the correct letter.

And the fact that he couldn't bother to take the toothpick out of his mouth while speaking as a County Commissioner at an official event.
