local news had it at something like 900 lightning strikes. 20+ being direct hits

One huge lightning strike seemed to end the main part of the storm here. Only about 15 minutes long

I had a pretty good sized tree split in two around 10:30 in the shenandoah area. Luckily it just missed the house.

People are starting to use sensors that are already in the ground and lightning strikes to establish shallow depth soil and rock layers.

Like seismic, but with lots of energy.
