Turned out to be an impressive looking line once the bow matured.

Here’s a story about the clusterfrick about the non tornado Friday night in north east Arkansas
Fall-out from false tornado

The fundamental aspect to an effective life saving warning system is confidence. That was severely rattled last Friday night as a monster supercell tracked across northern Arkansas. There must be improvements in the system and legal action must be on the table to fix it.

I have heard reports there may be an investigation pertaining to an individual or individuals knowingly sending false weather reports to the National Weather Service

While it’s certainly not a good thing I think a bigger deal is being made out of it than really should be. As long as they ensure it doesn’t become a pattern this issue will be forgotten within a short period of time
And ultimately, while it still didn’t fit the large tornado (or maybe even tornado?) bill, it was still a badass storm

So that PDS/Tornado Emergency wasn't even a tornado?
I was traveling this weekend so only saw bits of it

The person making the fake reports via Spotter Network and/or spoofing their location for mPING reports has shown a pattern. She (I'm pretty sure they know who it is now) did it during the Arkansas event a couple weeks ago. She was called out then.
I guess they could ban her specifically (her Spotter ID number) and her IP address from the network. They'd have to watch for her bouncing back, though, and doing the same shite.
As for the legitimate reports that made it into the warning, we're going to have that. It has always been an issue, particularly at night and in shitty terrain. Better training helps, and I'm sure they'll go that route in the future.
ETA: It doesn't help Spotter Network that they've allowed pettiness/politics to get into the equation over the past few years. There have been legitimate reports from trained spotters ignored or dismissed primarily due to who it came from. Brett Adair is one who has had a round with SN. I don't think that it is a stretch to say that he hates them at this point.

Oh I agree, was reading an Arkansas hunting board and someone that lived up there, said there was still hail piled up yesterday.

Nope, just straight line winds. The report of cars being flipped over on the highway were more than likely them trying to dodge the hail and then wrecking, or something along those lines.

Ridiculous.
Brett Adair might drive into the storm surge of a Cat 5, but he's a damn good spotter in the SE where it isn't always so easy with tornadoes.

I want to say it was last year that he was on a storm and made a report that got denied. He made another one. It got denied. They just wouldn't post the report or pass it along. He had a whole Twitter rant about it. I don't know if he left it up or of the issue got resolved, but he wasn't happy.
He's not the only one, either. Others have had the same issue.

Ohio woman files five bogus Arkansas storm reports, including one about a tornado
quote:
As severe storms moved through Arkansas on the night of April 11, someone in another state filed five "maliciously false" Arkansas storm reports, a meteorologist said.
One of those reports -- that a large tornado was heading toward Jacksonville and Cabot -- contributed to the National Weather Service's decision to upgrade a tornado warning to a tornado emergency.
quote:
Cavanaugh said the false Arkansas storm reports came from a woman in Cleveland, Ohio. He said the woman knew enough about weather to report things that looked plausible to meteorologists.
"It has real life repercussions," said Cavanaugh. "In this case it did not result in somebody getting hurt, which is great. But when you get too many of these false reports, it results in the degradation of our warnings. We have to make a warning decision in seconds."
Cavanaugh said the woman apparently hacked into Spotter Network, a software platform used by storm chasers. Spotter Network reports are sent directly to NWS chat, a platform that allows meteorologists at the Weather Service to communicate with broadcast media, emergency workers and firefighters to get information before issuing a warning.
quote:
Cavanaugh said Weather Service employees don't see the name of the person who files the report with Spotter Network, and the platform allows people to put in their own latitude and longitude. Obviously, the woman in Ohio put in Arkansas coordinates instead.
"The fact that their software allows people to falsify their latitude and longitude is a vulnerability," said Cavanaugh. "That's not their intention, of course."
quote:
He said the same woman in Ohio filed three false reports with the National Weather Service in Tulsa on April 11. The warning coordination meteorologist in Tulsa was off work on Tuesday and unavailable for comment. The Tulsa office covers the weather in seven counties in Northwest Arkansas.
