I think there will be storms in central AL, including Birmingham, later tonight. Whether or not they meet severe criteria will be the question.

shite…..

I didn’t need to sleep tonight anyways.

Multiple houses collapsed in the Gurley area. Per a report from law enforcement.

HRRR performed remarkably well for today's setup.

believe the theory is topography and the river has a lot of influence.

I would lean more towards topography.
There is a lot of wide open fairly flat farmland, with no major hills at all.

I have to wonder what exactly makes them all follow the same path?

My lack of knowledge idea is that it is purely random. It's just there are so many tornadoes that occur in Alabama (or any other tornado prone state) that the law of averages is that eventually a tornado will take a similar path as another one.

I think there is maybe something to topography and river valleys and such. We just have too many common, traditional paths around the country for there not to be some influence.

I lived in the area for 45 years. The major tornadoes almost always hit the same places, while other areas never get touched.
HighCotton mentioned Anderson Hills. I knew a guy that lived there, that got his house totally demolished twice.

Our now deceased neighbor had lived here his whole life and he had been an active electrician since he graduated high school.
He was going out one day and I asked him where (he usually didn't work on Saturdays). He said tornado damage north of Knoxville. Third time in his life he'd been called to work in that subdivision to repair wind or tornado damage.

There’s not enough repeated path scenarios for it to be purely random, imo.

There’s definitely some geographical influences that factor in

I have a friend whose parents lost their home in Tanner in '74 and again in 2011. She then lost her own home off of Pepper Road a few years ago.

Three areas of rotation south/southeast of Huntsville.

Well the thought was that the severe threat has diminished in the area of Huntsville/S&W of Huntsville then 2 more strong looking rotations popped up in that area BUT some of it was side lobe contamination and some of it wasn't and basically it's over my head to decipher but I think it's fair to say at least something is going on

It's moving into a more hilly area now.
Don't know if that's better or worse.
