The SPC forecast shows a significant chance of tornadoes in the region.

Travelers returning home after the Christmas holidays and everyone else at home need to be aware and stay safe.

MORNING WATER VAPOR LOOPS SHOW A DEEP UPPER LOW SOUTH OF ELP...WITH
STRONG LARGE-SCALE LIFT SPREADING EASTWARD ACROSS CENTRAL TX. THIS
LIFT WILL OVERSPREAD A SLOW-MOVING SURFACE COLD FRONT THIS
MORNING...LEADING TO LOW-LEVEL CYCLOGENESIS AND STRENGTHENING
CONVERGENCE/VERTICAL SHEAR ACROSS EAST TX. THIS PROCESS IS EXPECTED
TO RESULT IN A PERIOD OF ENHANCED RISK OF SEVERE STORMS...INCLUDING
TORNADOES...OVER PARTS OF EAST TX/SOUTHEAST OK/NORTHWEST LA/SOUTHERN
AR
.

Upper air soundings. Left line is dew point from the surface up to the top of atmosphere right line is temperature. The grey curved line is what's considered the parcel line. All of it helps meteorologists determine likelyhood of storms and severe weather. Essentially (doesn't always work like this and there's a whole lot more that goes into it but it's still a decent indicator) the longer the parcel line is to the right of the temperature line the more likely the potential for severe weather.

First cell east of the line (which are the tornadic ones) is north of Lufkin moving north - with a tornado warning. Don't see any other cells away from the line of storms with the front.

I really don't understand a lot of this. If I'm leaving BR for San Antonio in about an hour, will I be okay for the most part?

We have already seen three tornados and it's not even noon. The one above Texarkana right now looks interesting as it's been active for quite a while and looks decent size on the radar. Not sure if it is down or not.

If you want to see something crazy go to TVNWeather Live and look at the "MidSCAR Amarillo, TX" live feed. Looks like a blizzard up there.

Hell, it was a blizzard yesterday in El Paso when they were playing the Sun Bowl.
