The myth of Bruce Lee vs the reality of Bruce Lee has to be one of the biggest disparities in modern pop culture. Never has so much been made out of so little.

Tyson had a record of 50-6-2

44 knockouts

20 of them in the first round.

Holy fricking shite.

How many people were involved in what we now classify MMA back when Lee supposedly was kicking all this arse? Very few back then. The talent pool wasn't near what it is now. And it's very convenient for the myth-enablers that there is almost no video evidence of this prowess. Most of the accounts of his actual fighting are by hagiographers with a vested interest in continuing the mystique of Lee. Lee was a prideful man. I doubt he'd have entered to many of those tournaments (the few documented cases he did) where he didn't know the level of competition beforehand.
I'm not saying Lee couldn't have been a great fighter. There's just scant evidence of it.

lots of learning has been done in mma, as it is now, since 1950-60.

Same argument could say man like Lee laid a blueprint for fighters of today, and had he been in prime conditioning today, applying his insight to today's competition and using better methods to condition himself..may have been a better fighter himself.

He would absolutely be a better fighter in today's world. More knowledge in today's world about what works and what doesn't.

It would also be impossible for Lee to create this mythos around himself without stepping in the ring against recognizable and established competition. Now we have these fanboys making all these outrageous claims about Lee's abilities and when questioned about it give the equivalent of, "Because!".

To even entertain the idea that he would last very long against Tyson much less win is fricking laughable.

Tyson would destroy him. The weight difference is too much.

Wait, are nunhucks legal? could be a game changer.

I'm not sure I put money on anyone going against the young Mike Tyson. That guy was an animal!

Imagine how hard his punches would have been without the glove

Nah, but in and around his weight class though..

I think if mma had been around as it is now, he may have never done movies.

I don't care how fast you are or how great of a martial artist you are (and Lee's real talent & ability has been greatly overstated & fed by myths), if you put a 145lb Bruce Lee in a fight with a 230 Tyson, who could take hits that were as strong (if you believe the nonsense about Lee hitting like he weighed 200lbs) if not stronger than anything Lee could deliver, along with his insane punching power, Lee would get crushed. I don't care how fast he is, Tyson is going to land a shot and one shot could easily be all it takes. Also, is this a fight with Tyson not having to wear gloves, because then he'd probably outright kill Lee if he lands a couple.

Not to mention Tyson was really quick for a boxer. Most on here are acting like he was a lumbering mearhead. Unless Lee dodged everything, even a blocked punch would cripple him given the size strength difference.

Quote from Gene Lebell:
quote:

Bruce Lee and I didn’t agree on everything. For example, I’ve always been a believer in bobbing and weaving to avoid an opponent’s punches — instead of blocking with your hands. Bruce’s theory was to block a punch and then strike back with your open hand or fist. My point of view was that if you can avoid absorbing blows in a match or a fight, and then come in with offensive moves, you’ll live a lot longer.
Can you imagine Bruce Lee trying to block Mike Tyson's punches with his hands and arms? Tyson leaps in with a 4 or 5 punch combo and Lee tries to block them with his hands.

Lee was 165 and Tyson weighed in at 220 but probably his fighting weight was closer to 230 by fight time

Tyson's downhill spiral began when he was 23 years old...

28 year old Bruce would jack him up in an MMA or street fight.

Bruce had the endurance of an ultramarathoner, Tyson is amazing for 90 seconds.

Russian special forces advises this, as well as several krav Maga instructors...especially using your elbow to block

Bruce was countering with hits as they came...Tyson wouldn't get the followup shots in
