Who was the boxer that said "everyone looks great boxing their own shadow"

Rickson Gracie taps both of them.

No holds barred though, Lee would rip out Tyson's eyeball or dislocate his knee before Tyson knew what happened.
This is the correct answer. Less rules puts this away for Lee. And by pure conditioning. Even if you think Tyson wins, if it is no rules and Lee can scamper around enough, he'd wear Tyson out.
Of course if it's a tight space with limitations and pure boxing, Tyson's strength wins out. That's easy.

I honestly believe I would knock Bruce Lee out in one round and I only train in boxing. Mike Tyson would knock me out, even right now, with his first punch.

faster you are, the more energy released.

IF, and it's a big if, Lee could keep spacing he may have a solid chance. If he got too close and Tyson were to keep him there, Lee would get outclassed.
In a streetfight, I'm going with Tyson. He would bull rush and reduce that spacing Lee would need.

Chuck beat Lee once though.

Tyson would only need to land one or two punches to do some serious damage.
This would be a much better thread if it was Tyson v. Chuck Norris. Lee rarely competed. Chuck Norris is a martial arts God.

I don't think you're giving enough credit to the fact that Tyson is a lot more street fighter than boxer at heart. He grew up whipping asses in the streets, and almost always against guys bigger than him.
The premise that this is a no-holds-barred street fight works way in Tyson's favor, IMO. He'll bite, nut punch, stick his finger up your arse, whatever he has to do to hurt you.

I can see thinking that Lee is overrated. A lot of the stuff you hear could easily be marketing. One thing that wasn't marketing was his conditioning and some level of training. No way just a hobbyist destroys Lee. That's getting ridiculous.

I've seen Tyson knock out the best boxers in the world
I've seen Lee looks badass by himself in a gym or in movies
People who say Lee must not need actual evidence of him beating other great fighters

Not in a street fight. Your fighting systems go out the window and you are just trying to survive. Good luck trying to do all your fancy moves.
Real fighting systems, what Bruce was trying to do with JKD, and what Krav Maga is today are all about efficiency of movement, power from positioning, weight transference, etc. It has nothing to do with being fancy.
Bruce was a zealot, not only because he brought Kung Fu to America, but because he broke Kung Fu down to its essentials and tried to draw the real fighting system out of it. He removed the "fancy," to get down to the brass tacks. Bruce wanted a system that could work.
Bruce wasn't a smart fighter BECAUSE he wrote a book. he was a smart fighter because he was distilling multiple fighting methods into a single system of what real human vs. human combat was and trying to win that fight.
It certainly doesn't make him an automatic winner in this, but it gives him an edge. He was very much a proponent of brutality in a real world fight where you had to defend yourself. He knew that one good eye gouge, against anyone including a brute like Tyson, would win you a fight.
Whether or not he could land that gouge is the question. But then you're taking away the beauty of the fight right?

Lee was not a fighter. I believe I have spent more time sparring thn Lee has. It is a great deal different when you actually get hit and don't simulate getting hit.

Bruce was a speed and steroid freak that knew how to market himself.

I've never seen someone so unjustifiably feared as Mike Tyson.
Posted on 2/14/14 at 9:23 am to Freauxzen
I have doubts on Lees power. He'd arse whip any of us, but against a specimen like Tyson, who absorbed punches for a living, I just don't think he'd have enough juice to take down someone who outsized him so much (and someone that knew how to absorb punishment and deliver his own).
