Service at Car Dealerships

We recently purchased a very low mileage Toyota. After approximately 7,500 bad experiences with mechanics and oil change places in this city, we have decided that we will just do all of the maintenance for this car at the dealership. I'm sure it will cost more, but I feel like the work will be done correctly.
Looking online... most places have an option for an appointment. Is this really necessary? Will I have to wait hours if I don't make an appointment for an oil change?
Also, we bought it at Toyota of New Orleans. Anyone have experience (good or bad) with service at that dealership, or any other NOLA area Toyota dealers?

I'm sorry that you are poor and had to buy a lemon of a car.

Hey give the guy a break. He lives in NOLA. He has to spend all his money on rent, private school, body armor, and ammo.

yes you need an appt if you get service work done at a dealership.
oil changes are simple and can be done yourself for little cost.

I used to go to Lakeside Toyota with my Corolla. Never had any bad experiences. I never made an appointment and from what I recall weekends were first come, first serve. I would show up first thing in the morning and never have an issue. If you leave the dealership, call for updates as they kind of suck at keeping you updated.
Also, went to Bohn before that and their service sucked. They didn't have a part in stock and they asked me to drive to Lakeside Toyota to pick it up and bring it back for them. Told them to f-off and went to Lakeside ever since.

I'm looking for people who can get the job done. Black, white, robot, whatever.

I call the service department and they come pick my truck up and leave me something to drive. Same with my wife's maintenance

This just isn't true.
I don't make appointments for routine maintenance for our vehicles. But I can leave it there for a morning and not mind, so that might be part of it.

You save maybe $20 doing it yourself, but then you have to factor in your time to go get materials, dispose of old materials, time to actually do it. I changed my own oil for 10 years and have since said F that, I have better things to do.

What Ford dealership is doing that? Or are you in the High Country HD now?

Took me 4 months to get in with the Jeep dealership for my last service/recall. They had a lot going on with the recalls, but I was still perplexed at how long it took

Change the oil yourself. It is not that hard.
Most dealerships have a quick oil change lane, however duration to completion will depend on what time you take it.
Seriously though, do it yourself.

Probably

Why would be opposed to making one? Although, you can still plan on waiting even when you have an appointment. They use the same philosophy as doctor offices do.
The fact that you claim to have bought a low mileage Toyota and have even had many mechanical issues means you bought a problem.
Oil changes will cause you a deep probing at a dealership unless it is where you bought it and they offer "free oil changes". The idea that you get better or more correct mechanical work from a dealership is a myth.

The mechanic problems I have had were all with other cars. We just got this car recently, have not had any problems.
But all the other problems I've had over the past number of years with botched oil changes, dishonest mechanics, etc, make me very untrusting.
I could change my own oil, yes, I did so in high school and college. I'd rather pay the extra to have someone do it.

Our local Toyota dealership sends out coupons for oil changes for like $19.99. I can't do it myself that cheap. They do require an appointment, but never really had an issue doing it that way ourselves.

Why wouldn't you *want* an appointment at a dealership? What if 100 other people showed up that day to get their oil changed too? You'd be bitching and moaning about how long the dealership service takes - and probably take to Yelp or Google to vent your frustration.
Not to mention how they'd handle the loaner car situation if people showed up without appointments...

The stealership with charge you about twice what a good non-affiliated mechanic would.
You should just ask around for some references. Mechanics don't really fix things anymore as much as replacing broken parts.
