Have a son taking college courses in high school that earn credit hours at Southeastern.

I am wondering how easy it is to transfer those credits to another university? I doubt he will choose to go to SELU and I don't want to waste his time and my money if the credit hours won't transfer to where he chooses to go.

I emailed this question to SELU but haven't heard back from them.

TIA!

Depends on the university he wants to transfer them to.

Every school is different.

It is still a good experience for him. The money is not wasted no matter the outcome.

They should transfer.
What class(es) are they?
Anything like English or Algebra usually transfers.

His counselor should be able to help him with this question.

My son graduated in 2010 but had classes through SLCC as dual enrollment. He then began at ULL and transferred to LSU after a year. Don't remember it being a problem at all. Think his classes were first 2 English classes.

I did it when I was in high school too (granted that was 2004), but I knew I was going to LSU. I just picked classes that were accepted by LSU. I don't remember it being difficult at all.

Shouldn't be a problem. Our students take classes at Nicholls, and I haven't heard of any problems with them transferring the credits to LSU. Also, SELU isn't the place you'll really need to talk to. I would contact the schools he plans on applying to just to be sure they will transfer.

The basic topic courses (i.e ENGL, MATH, HIST, etc.) will transfer without a problem. Most schools will accept most credits from another 4 year school even if they are only used as electives for his chosen major. If he is coming to LSU you can find out what his SELU courses will be credited as at LSU, you can check Tiger Transfer Tables. Find SELU on the list and look up what he has credit in (i.e. ENGL 101) and it will show what he will get at LSU. LINK

He will have to have an official transcript sent from SELU to whatever school he will be attending to get the credit awarded.

Super easy for all the basic gen Ed's as others have said. The only problem you may run into is if your son wants to major in chemistry and takes chemistry 1001 or however it is numbered at SELU they may try to deny the credit saying they need to get the foundation courses at LSU. I would bet though if you tried and bitched enough they would accept it. Even if that happens though I would still say that it would be a good idea to take them as they will help him learn some of the same information early
