Chicago paid an artist 10K to paint a large wall covering painting called "Knowledge and Wonder". Now that artist is famous and they believe the painting can be sold for ten frickin' million dollars.

And everybody from the NYT to local politicos get to argue if it should be sold, if it should stay in the disadvantaged neighborhood library, or if the money should be spent somewhere of their choosing.

Me, I'd say take the money and run.

I’m sure if they left it there it would inspire one of the 3 people that utilize that library every month.

It’s an alright painting but it always seemed a little strange that artwork is considered more valuable based on who made it vs how technically difficult it was to make. Seems like someone doesn’t have to uniquely talented to get famous in the art world

They won’t have to make a decision. It’ll be stolen in three weeks.

I heard a song about "take the money and run".

This is a devastating move, especially given the symbolism of removing a painting that celebrates black children’s intellectual inquiry.

Looks kind of shitty to me

If one has the means to piss away $10m on a painting then $10m means nothing to that person.

Modern art is hideous. It's impressive when someone can capture the essence and beauty of a human being with a paint brush. This is not impressive.
