How do people hibernate for 5 months

They don't. Usually as much to do in winter, or more than in summer. Skating, skiing, snow machining, curling, ice fishing...

The only people who hibernate are the old folks.

We have some of the roughest weather anywhere. Met two guys from Sweden a few years ago and it was about 35 degrees here and a little windy. I was dressed like the damn michelin man and made a joke about how they probably think we are wimps with the cold.

They said this was bone-chilling cold with the humidity and wind and they would rather their hometown where it was -10 at the time.

We go from brutal to brutal with the quickness here. Thankfully the cold brutal doesnt come around often

And there is nothing to do when it’s cold here. Up north you have skiing, skating, snow mobiles, hockey, etc

When it’s cold here you are just fricking cold. The older I get the more I realize Louisiana simply sucks arse

Nearly a decade of Chicago winters

My great aunt lives in Chicago (Belmont Terrace/Schiller Park area) and celebrated her 90th b-day on Jan 30, 2019. It was a surprise party at Trattoria Porretta, her favorite restaurant. Never been so cold in all my life. -30 below wind chill and the high for the day was around -15. Granted this was an extreme case of cold weather as no way I could tolerate the brutal cold temps & snow for 4-5 months. My Chicago cousins visited us in February 2020 and complained about the humidity .... life is all about where you grow up.

I have spent time in Wisconsin. Nah, dawg. You can’t hide from the cold. Have to embrace it bro.

I prefer the cold. I can put on more clothes. I can dress in layers.

If it is 100°+ I can only take off so much before I catch a charge.

Also, in the cold all the shite that wants to eat or bite you is generally laying low.

The damp cold when it's windy here will kick a Yankee's arse.

Chicago barely had winter a few years ago. Varies quite a bit.

Anywhere you get wind and cold, you'll be cold. Without the wind, it's always manageable.

It's not the heat, it's the humidity. I walked outside for about 1/2 mile in Vegas last weekend and it was 95. Never broke a sweat.

They'll likely have snow flurries in the air this month.

I've been sitting out on the deck at night barefoot with flannel pants and no shirt while it's around 55 degrees here. You guys would probably be wearing Carhart's.

On the flip side I'd be melting in the springtime in LA. Let alone when it really gets hot.

Those guys from the UP are probably sweating their balls off.

I was in Pasadena Saturday afternoon and it was upper 90's, people sweating like a tropical monsoon.

You sweat just as much, it just doesn't evaporate as much in humid conditions.

We might get them next week.

I hope so, an early ski season would rock.

Doesnt the dew point cause the humidity?

Most of my life now I’ve either lived in Northern Illinois or Louisiana. Extreme heat is annoying, and a slow form of misery, extreme cold is just fricking painful.

Not to mention there isn’t much “mandatory” outside activity if it’s hot out. You can mow the lawn at 6AM before the heat sets in on the least hot day of that week. If you getting to work requires you shoveling 10” off your driveway when it’s -10 degrees outside you’re just fricked.

Yeah but you can have 99% humidity when it’s 60 degrees outside but you’re not going to be sweating your balls off. So when people are sweating their balls off and see 83% humidity and say “it’s so humid” they’re missing the point. It’s because it’s 90 degrees and the dew point is 75 degrees.

Not because it’s so humid. It can be “so humid” and feel really nice outside at 60 degrees.

It does feel amazing outside right now
