No, you just have to look through government archives to see governments make the same decision over and over.

which again, no polling data has shown a plurality of people in any Western nation broadly support.
Why does polling data matter? Think this through for once. A smaller and smaller demographic isn't going to have the same degree of political power. The reality is that the political economy is controlled by a very limited few, and governments are more responsive to those groups than they are the people at large.

Well, political states will ensure the survival of the state above all else. Modern polities in Western Europe aren't singularly organized. Many of them became more coherent states after extensive centralization projects. If France can make Bretons 'French,' what is to stop the state to think it could make someone from the Congo 'French'?
Maybe the black pill for people to swallow is that your interest isn't directly related to the state's interest, and even if your faction was directly in power, there is no guarantee that they wouldn't enact the same policy.

honestly don’t know, has any Western country even attempted to do so? explicitly? would it even be possible to publicly announce you want to boost the birth rate of native born citizens?
I'm going to have to research a little and do a deeper dive now. Didn't the US encourage people to have children, thus resulting in the boomer generation? I know China was on the opposite side and has done population control.

and would it even matter? what’s the difference between an Irishman and someone from eastern europe, aside from ethnicity, language, and religion. just throw them all in the “melting pot”

I believe you either mistook my point or I didn't make it clear enough.
I'm not saying it's a good idea. I think it's an even worse idea to send them to Ireland bc of their historical instability.
All I was trying to say was that maybe they need more people and since they haven't seen any uptick, maybe there's cause for concern. If your country's numbers are dwindling and can't be replaced and you don't accept any immigrants, sooner or later, that country will cease to exists.

It never colonised anyone, either.

Also, this thread made me think of Ukrainians speaking in an Irish accent, and seems like it would be funny.

But given the precipitous declines in TFR everywhere, there has to be something else at play. In other words, something is at play in a wide variety of cultures and political economies which only share a vague definition of development between them.
Yeah, birth control has allowed young women to destroy their prime fertility years for selfish pursuits, and millions upon millions of babies who actually were conceived got aborted.
And before I get slammed, denying nature for your own convenience (don't want to deal with pregnancy) and financial gain (career) is the very definition of selfish.

But the decline in fertility began before widespread access to contraceptive pills, and you saw declines in fertility even in places where abortion was illegal, like in Ireland before 2018, and Chile before 2017.
You are just emoting without looking clearly at the evidence. To put it more clearly, the negative trend in TFR appears across cultures, approaches to health, abortion, contraception, etc.

Oh father why are you so sad on this bright Easter morn'
When Irish men are proud and glad of the land where they were born
Son I see in memories view of far-off distant days
When being just a lad like you I joined the IRA

Maybe that’s what the Ginger’s are worried about in Ireland, our south of the border immigrants aren’t really packing the same punch as the immigrants from Africa are packing.

Prove it, and show evidence to the contrary of my comments not related to the country getting the shite blown out of it and/or taken over by totalitarian governments during and following WWII.

First off, you are the one who made the initial claim. Secondly, you want evidence from a country where apparently nothing happened? I have a feeling you'd discount evidence from everywhere to fit your preconceived notions. You'd discount Spain, where abortion was illegal until 1985, but where the TFR declined each year onward from 1977, finally reaching sub-replacement rates in 1982. And contraceptive access was heavily regulated until 2009.

I love the sound of anger and conviction in a British/Irish or Australian accent.
