SEC awards a 50MM payment to be split and another 33MM to a third person

quote:

Securities and Exchange Commission today announced its highest-ever Dodd-Frank whistleblower awards, with two whistleblowers sharing a nearly $50 million award and a third whistleblower receiving more than $33 million.  The previous high was a $30 million award in 2014.

I didn't know they paid these people.

quote:

The SEC has awarded more than $262 million to 53 whistleblowers since issuing its first award in 2012

Average of about 5MM/per snitch.

quote:

Whistleblower awards can range from 10 percent to 30 percent of the money collected when the monetary sanctions exceed $1 million

If you were the only one who really knew about some indiscretions in your financial sector, could you feign ignorance until it reached a HUGE payout and then call your company out?

Why do they call it an award and not a reward?

That bothers me for some reason.

That's a lot of stitches.

Very much agree. Am watching Power Lunch and they just spoke about it. I thought it was going to be a nice statue of $$$ or something. Nope just 83 million fricking dollars.

Is this somehow proportional to what they whistleblew about?

I mean, if my boss steals candy from the vending machine, can I turn him in and collect $20M?

If so, I will.

If I snitch on myself, do I get paid?

Gotta be over 1 million. Which seems a low number. Especially when they say you can get 10-30% of the forfeited monies.

Even at 10%, the 50 million pay out would mean, someone did something bad with 500 million dollars. That's a lot.

I think Joe Moorhead is going to do a better job at MSU than people expect. Dan Mullen did a lot for that program and I think Moorhead will be able to keep it going. MSU will never be a consistent powerhouse, but like what Mullen did, Moorhead will be able to have pretty good teams, with a year better than others every few years.

Chad Morris is going to be a coach to keep an eye on. The West already has Alabama, Auburn, LSU and... A Jimbo Fisher TA&M team so if Arkansas wins even one game they are not supposed to, they can have an impact on how things play out.

But Ole Miss is in the shitter because of a whistleblower at MSU. I wonder if he got paid?

Because the amount is given as compensation for a legal judgement. You are awarded money in legal cases.

Contractor I know did some work for a guy that built a 5.5 million dollar home last year. When asked what the guy did for a living my source told me "Nothing anymore, he was a whistleblower on some big case against Pfizer pharmaceuticals."

So I take it the ol' whisteblowing gig pays pretty nicely...

Nah, that reward would be paid out in Dodge Chargers instead of cash.
