This. And what I find ironic is that Sears was the Amazon of America before there was an Amazon or the internet. The Sears catalog was the way America shopped from home for decades. But for some reason Sears somehow missed the internet train and got left behind.

That's what boggles the mind. People give me shite when I tell them I order toilet paper from Amazon. I'm like "Bitch, people used to order fricking HOUSES from Sears & Roebuck!"

This is a classic example of a legacy company getting taken out back and shot by a young upstart doing 95% the SAME. EXACT. THING. because the young upstart understands how to use technology to do what the legacy company does, but better.

Yes, I understand the fall of Sears is more complicated than that, but the point stands.

I buy some stuff from Amazon but I do my best to give some support to local businesses too. I buy most of our meat, wine, beer and some produce at Calandro's because I like the store and the service.

Eddie Lampert

Dude is a shyster as every Sears’ employee I’ve spoken to can’t stand EL. In order to keep Sears from hemorraging money, Lampert and his friends formed a real estate company that purchased the property (buildings) from Sears. Instead of updating and making improvements to the property, the RE company increased sq./foot lease prices. As mentioned earlier, every Sears store looks the same as it did in 1985. Once Sears finally closes, the RE company still owns all the properties which they can lease to future tenants.

Regarding the Auto Centers, Lampert bought tons of stock in Auto Zone. He then required that ALL the auto centers buy their products for service work from Auto Zone. Louisiana only has 2 remaining Sears auto centers: Shreveport and Baton Rouge. The Lafayette location was making money but shut down when Sears closed because it was located inside the Acadiana Mall. S’port and BR auto centers are separate satellite stores not part of the mall.
