My guess is WIFI works on a radio wave where quantum light whatever works on a light band.

Radio waves and light are the same. One you can see, one you can’t. Just different points on the electromagnetic spectrum.

Think of it like a super-advanced game of catch, where two quantum computers toss information back and forth without physically connecting.

explain to me, like I'm 5, how this is different from bluetooth, text messaging, etc.

So bluetooth?

Yes, except without any signal of any kind traveling between the computers. It's more secure because there is nothing to intercept.

It simply sent information using light.

This has existed for decades

It is a horrible article for painting a picture of what occurred. If they needed light to transmit data, who cares as we can do that.

Was it quantum entanglment, where there was no transmission and it just occurred, that would be something.

What if in Star Trek anytime they teleported someone, what came out on the other side wasn’t actually the same being, but rather an exact copy of that person?

I am missing the art where this is not Bluetooth. Where is the physical form?

Also, the article very clearly puts quotes around "teleported" because that's actually not what this is at all. It simply sent information using light. Which is pretty cool in itself and could have many applications...but in no way is it legit teleporting one thing to a different place in space/time.

It’s unfortunate that quantum teleportation means the transfer of quantum information across distances while in pop culture teleportation invokes images from Star Trek, Galaxy Quest, etc. It doesn’t help that the click-bait headlines use images of transporters.

This particular result is interesting because quantum information cannot be duplicated (no-cloning theorem for those who want to read more) and these researchers found a way to transmit data across a distance while performing an error-corrected experiment (the logical qubits mentioned in the paper). It is a tiny step on the 1000 mile journey to one day having quantum computers that provide value (somewhat analogous to the Google Willow announcement last December).

It’s different from Bluetooth because it’s using quantum information while Bluetooth is transmitting classical information packets. You cannot use Bluetooth or WiFi (at least today) to transfer a quantum state between qubits.

One of the more esoteric interpretations of this is support for the hypothesis that consciousness exists outside the brain, thus offering a scientific rationale for life after death.

But if someone gets a TBI or some other severe damage to their brain, does that manifest in their consciousness outside the brain? Or do we have some kind of transcendental ideal consciousness that is fogged and filtered in the material world in which we exist?

Once you’ve seen the movie The Fly, it’s like wanting to get on a zeppelin after seeing the Hindenburg go down in flames.
I’m good no thx

Quantum entanglement. The particles are exchanging information simultaneously rather than travelling to each other. Nothing is travelling through space to reach a destination. It exists together in the quantum field.

An important distinction from every other form of communication is that there is no light, radio waves or other signal traveling between the two computers to transfer the information and, therefore, nothing that can be intercepted. Bluetooth and WiFi rely on em radiation (radio waves) to transmit the info, with each sending and receiving. With this new method, there is nothing transmitted nor received in any physical sense.

This is correct.

There is no "connection" between the two computers. The information exists at both places simultaneously with nothing connecting the two.
