Jacobs, back in the day rolled out several different flavors of PC, based on your occupation..Like I said above, some companies use people specifically for the tasks
Do you work for Jacobs?

$50/hour would equal out to around $100,000. I don't know of a ton of firms that would pay a drafter/designer who isn't eligible for licensure that type of money.
i could name a dozen in the BR area
these guys aren't drawing ditches and subdivisions though
we are talking about guys designing chemical plants, refineries, offshore, etc.

All of the industrial firms have leads and senior designers making over that in BR. Knew several designers that hit that by age 30.

You will be lower end guy in a firm. Typically, a contract employee. When we need to fire people, the CAD guys go first. We have 3-4 core guys that we keep, but the rest are always on the firing squad.

I took my degree and followed this industrial construction path to a very nice career. In fact WAY better than I ever imagined
Entry Level Project Estimator
Estimating manager
Project manager
Project manager /business development
Full Time BD
Never looked back after I got BD. Started out probably 15 years ago.

Our designers make 25-55 an hour.
Worth it but you wont make that starting out. Probably closer to 13-15

I’d go civil tech. Learn drafting, surveying, lab work, etc. Also take some GIS classes and learn all you can about it. Lots off opportunities and if you decide to pursue civil engineering later you will already have valuable experience and likely your job will help cover the cost if you are working for an engineering firm or government agency.

What’s the job market like for these types of jobs, are they normally in demand. I could see myself really enjoy doing something like that.

Every civil engineer should have to work in the field a minimum of 2 years. Should be a requirement. Unless you work for a consulting firm. frick whoever builds he shite then.

$20-$50 per hour pay.
Yeah... $50/hr. That's with a chitload of experience and talent. And talent goes a long way... if you're good you'll be paid for it.

Pretty hot right now
It can get real hot, but it goes in cycles. Feast or famine.

There is a lot of money in design and 3D design. Find what you are interested in the most but I would definitely recommend a concentration in plant work cause that’s where the money is. Structural, piping and EI are all well Pod designers and can easily make $50+. The good ones who have been around forever make much more than that.
