$20-$50 per hour pay.

Would skip 2 year degree and get Autodesk and Autocad User Certifications. Find your niche and advance to the 3D modeling or BIM certifications if you like.

Get your Professional Certificate from Autodesk and you can make even more per hour. Up to about $75 if you find the right spot and you have talent.

Plenty of places don't have engineers that do all the drafting and design work.

Good draftsmen are hard to find.

Drafter for a large firm. No way $50 per hour. I'd say 17-25 tops.

Yep.

Only if the OP has zero desire to become an engineer.

17-25 for a drafter, yes

30-50 and even quite a bit more for a good designer

He is meaning a combo of designer/drafter.

If all you do is draft and do redline pickups then yeah I'll agree.

For reference I should mention I came across this and have zero experience in it. This would be a career change if it came to fruition. But I could just be dreaming at this point, idk

$50/hour would equal out to around $100,000. I don't know of a ton of firms that would pay a drafter/designer who isn't eligible for licensure that type of money.

The engineering company I work for hires drafters. I don’t even have drawing software on my computer, which is odd. Not sure on the pay.

I taught myself revit with the program and a book.
architectural design/drafting isn't that hard but it has definitely gained me business (i'm a contractor)

straight-up drafting though?
i pay about $100 a sheet, after i draw the basics
its not something i'd want to do full time

no one my friend. Upvote for the comment. If you have design experience you better be making much more than $25 an hour.

I can teach my 9 year old to draw and offset lines. But when an engineer essentially stamps your design and build you get paid for that. No engineer losing time correcting mistakes or bad knowledge of the regulations means more money in a drafter/designers pockets.

Just being honest.

Jacobs, back in the day rolled out several different flavors of PC, based on your occupation..Like I said above, some companies use people specifically for the tasks
