Lafayette Parish out tomorrow. Very limited water, so that makes that a easy choice (no bathrooms, washing hands, cafeteria, etc.)

EBR now closed.

Good teachers don't want to miss days. I have over 100 sick / personal days saved up because I am there every day. We have a set amount of time to get kids ready for state testing / AP exams. Missing days just makes my job more difficult.

State of emergency days don’t have to be made up - y'all both work from home? Must be nice to ask others to get on road and you stay at home and work. Sounds like your kids are getting in your nerves and rather them get in teachers nerves - LOL

No one is going - kids went home and can’t return safely down roads and interstate. Mine attends and won’t be back until Monday.

I don't know the ins and outs of what does or does not have to be made up, but that does not sound right. If State of Emergency days never have to be made up, why do they worry about making them up with too many hurricane days? Closures as a result of hurricanes and their subsequent damage would fall under State of Emergency. The way I have always heard it explained by the administration is they need to have either a minimum number of days or hours in the classroom.

Up north (I know different state, but still under Dept of Ed) have to worry about too many snow days and will sometimes have days added in June.

This is acceptable. Closing tomorrow because of the roads is retarded

All the main heavily traveled roads are fine but backwoods rural roads in the shade are still pretty icy. I like to bag on schools canceling too much but after already being off for the first four days this week it’s best to call it off and go back to school on Monday when the ice is long gone. Any leftover slush in shaded spots on the road is going to freeze again tonight.

Can the school send a note to my work that I also don’t have to work now? Thanks

Is the school on a backwood rural road? No.

Let the schools open and everyone that lives on backwood rural roads need to use their own discretion.

I mean, if one random Tuesday a big oak tree fell on a backwood rural road and a kid couldn’t make it to school, they wouldn’t close the entire school for the 4,999 other kids who had no problem going to school.

Just deal with it and get an excused absence for hardship. Sheesh.

I think you are full of shite. Because my kids school is stating that is exactly what has to happen. The schools set the amount of days for contingency for weather. By tuesday, they blew through all 3.

How about you provide some sort of evidence that "state of emergency days don't have to be made up".

They’re trying to secure what would be a 9 day weekend.

Dunno where you are located, but here in Calcasieu Parish, for public schools, it all depends on whether or not the buses can run safely. If there is 40mph wind (or some certain set amount of wind), they can't run. If there are still frozen patches of roads, they can't run. If there is flooding in any areas, they can't run. If the buses cannot run, the schools remain closed. Its a liability issue, and has absolutely nothing to do with the teachers. Then of course if there is no electricity, they remain closed. If there is no water, they remain closed. Again, the teachers have absolutely nothing to do with these decisions. And before someone goes and calls me a teacher who just wants days off, I am not a teacher.

You’ll survive school being out for one more day after the biggest snowstorm in Louisiana since 1899.

A lot of the built-in weather days were already burned up last fall with all the closures for hurricane threats and enhanced weather risk days. So now they are using the “virtual learning” route to avoid make-up days in May. So, I’m back to COVID routine of helping my kid use the home computer and complete their assignments at the house.

Our school district (Tamm) hasn’t mentioned going virtual yet. Figured it must be some kind of logistical clusterfrick or something else for them to not try it.
