Closing schools is stupid. The kids are just gonna hang out at parties and in public. What teens with no in person school are just gonna sit home hiding? None.

The schools around here that have closed have been due to contact tracing. Too many staff members out even though only a small group were actually positive for the virus.

We only have 5 confirmed cases at our school. 330+ student private school.

but all 5th grade teachers (my wife included,) all 6th grade teachers, all 6th grade students, all 7th grade students, all Sr students, and my two kids who shared a car ride with the positive test 7th grader are out.

A fourth of the school is virtual right now.

To add to the insanity, my wife had lunch with the 6th grade teacher that was positive on a Friday. She got tested that afternoon after developing symptoms. My wife was primary contact and had to stay home for 2 weeks. No symptoms and she couldn’t come back with a negative test. Teacher with symptoms and a positive test got to come back before my wife with a negative test and no symptoms.

Then they call my wife this weekend and say she can’t come because she shares a house with my kids who shared the ride with the positive 7th grader. 2 days before he had symptoms and 4 days before his positive test.

My wife hasn’t left the house for any meaningful time for 3 weeks at this point.

It's a 10 day quarantine for a positive test but a 14 day quarantine for close contact but no positive.

Just like the economy, letting doctors call the shots in education is a mistake.

Good to know. My daughter really likes going to school. She’s in grade school. There’s been notifications about Covid positives and potential to get notifications concerning contacts.

Wife thinks high schools probably more of a concern than primary/middle. Makes sense. Seen a lot of my friends high school age kids just living life like whatever

My wife is an elementary teacher in Terrebonne. Essentially the same rumor is flying around Terrebonne Parish School District.

After this threa, it seems this "rumor" has real legs and certain truths regarding Thanksgiving. Looks like this is really happeneing.

How are they cases in schools in Louisiana?

My sons elementary has has one case. One. Since early September. They started 50% in person. Now 75%.

My oldest son’s junior high has had 5 in that same time, with similar in person %.

All cases weren’t from in school. Clearly it’s not the vector people were doomsday screeching about months ago.

Yet they want to shut them down.

In Texas we could have elementary schools shut down but bars still open.

My daughter mentioned this but was just a rumor from other students. No indication of being legit.

Being a school teacher has to be the biggest scam going right now. Just reading the board tonight everyone is complaining about them. They’re looting just like everyone else and the ones that aren’t wish they were.

My moms a school teacher and hates it. She’s one that really does it because she loves being a mentor for the kids (works at a dyslexia school) and it’s absolutely frustrating to her, especially trying to teach a bunch of dyslexic kids over a zoom call when the school has had one positive case all year. Insane

These kind of rumors are ever present wherever schools are currently open.

The moment a district even temporarily closes, the internet rings with AHA! WE WERE RIGHT!-- and the next rumor for the next town over is buttressed, without a single actual change in the underlying conditions in the next town over.

Quit giving panic peddlers a platform for this drek. Ignore it until they actually do close your schools, then get on with the business of making due, without encouraging panic.
