Please note that it was The Citadel cadets that fired on the Star of the West when it was approaching Fort Sumter.
I'm having a good time watching people lose their minds over this thing.
Maybe they can trade the Confederate flag with LSU for the cannon that fired on Ft. Sumter that Sherman gave to yall.

Haley supports removing Confederate flag from Citadel
S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley said Thursday she would support lawmakers approving the removal of a Confederate flag from a Citadel chapel to a nearby museum.
At the urging of Republican Haley, S.C. legislators removed the Confederate flag from the State House grounds last summer after a self-avowed racist, who had posed with the flag, was charged with slaying nine parishioners of Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church.

I don't see why the confederate flag belongs on government property.

it's a state school so they'll lose but they might be the only institution in this ridiculous pissing contest that might have a valid historical argument for keeping it

Because it's part of history. Citadel cadets fired canons on the Union. Flag belongs there.

They should replace it with a portrait of Shannon Faulkner for maximum lulz

That is definitely happening. I'm not sure taking the confederate flag down is really part of that

Why do you support treason, brother?
Posted on 6/2/16 at 3:24 pm to Red Drum
if you must, at least fly the actual CSA flag.

The Confederate flag represents a country that rebelled against the US and subsequently LOST said war of rebellion. Like it or not, it is a flag of treason against the US.
It really should not be flying over any federal or state run buildings/institutions.
Even more reason to remove it.

Not owned, but it is supported to a large extent by the State of SC. I would not consider them a true private institution.

It's a state-supported university, yes.

It is a public (state supported) university. Always has been.
