New Orleans Murder Rate: 30.7 per 100,000 people.

For New Orleans, that’s leave your bullet proof vest at home numbers.

Indeed. That’s good for 43rd in the world for homocide rate, and would need to triple to catch Tijuana and the other Mexican cities.

NOLA still behind St Louis, Baltimore, and Detroit in the US but should close the gap this summer as LaToya seems worker than the other listed cities’ Mayors.

Just treat it like you’re visiting a third world country. Respect the local culture and community but don’t make eye contact with the natives.

If you have a car, believe and worship the speed limits and red lights and stop signs.

Visit Jean Lafite park on the other side of the river and walk the paths through the swamps. Wear cotton or natural fiber clothing or the sweat pouring out of every pore of your body won't evaporate.

Go to the Chalmette Battlefield and then to Rocky and Carlos for lunch. It is the neighborhood restaurant that used to be everywhere. It's the go-to restaurant we miss the most that we could always afford.

Visit Napoleon's death mask in the Cabildo.

Take the ferry to and from Algiers Point.

Eat beignets and drink Cafe au Lait.

Visit the above the ground cemetery in Jefferson Parish (or has that gotten scavengers watching it, too?)

It has the longest list of positive qualities for a city as well as the longest list of negative qualities for a city. It is enigmatically inconsistent with itself. I love it and hate it all at the same time. But in the end, I couldn’t see myself living anywhere else.

A lot of places there don’t require masks anymore. All I got. Royal Street is cool. Stay away from the 100 block of Bourbon. Probably need to stay away from Bourbon period, especially at night.

Good things: I loved growing up there 1950s-60s. I’m glad we moved from there in 1984.
