Satanic Panic in the 80’s

So I was born in 1988, so I don’t remember the 80’s first-hand, so I have a question for those who were around during the whole decade and can remember it. I’ve heard on multiple occasions that there was a widespread “Satanic Panic” during that era, where people feared that there were Satanic cults everywhere and it could very well be your next door neighbor who was a secret Satanist.
Parents feared that Ozzy Osbourne was the Antichrist and that heavy metal was the devil’s music. Televangelists like Jimmy Swaggart stirred up a lot of fear, especially against rock bands.
So, do you remember this happening during the 80’s? Did you ever experience anything related to Satanic Panic?

There’s a documentary on David Berkowitz on Netflix. Cult killings, German shepherd sacrifices, links to Charles Manson, etc.

You were the result of a Satanic orgy.

You just sprinkled SFP catnip all over the OT.

“The Dungeons and Dragons death cult got ‘em” was the “the jab got ‘em” of its time.

Smoking that devils lettuce while jamming devil music on the devils holiday.

There was a whole series of investigative reports on the news in New Orleans in the 80's with the journalist Bill Elder. There were animal carcasses found with ritualistic markings around Covington. I was in school at the time and remember the stories of my best friend's brother that worked at the logging camps north of Covington around Goodbee and Folsom. He said they used to hear chants during the night and supposedly a few of them came across a coven that was having a ritual. Most of these stories were hearsay, but there were some elements that did go unexplained.
Bill Elder was a boss and a great journalist.

Yep, this book lays out most of the findings on it. But toward the end, people started to doubt Maury. Take it fwiw

So, I do remember rumors of satanic cults specifically off Scenic HWY in P'cola in 1988 time frame.

Barbara Bush?
Mr. Crowley, what went on in your head?

It was real. As in the legends, not the actual satanists.
Every town had their own "witch's graveyard" where you don't go at night because of the satanists and their witchery. Lest ye be sacrificed to the dark prince.
It was teenagers vandalizing property and Karens (we called them Barbara's back then) flipping out.

There is a documentary on HBO where some kids were charged with murder because they wore black etc. I forget the name of it but they didn't seem to have much other evidence on them. Exactly the kind of stuff you're talking about.

I remember a 20/20 episode that talked about playing Stairway to Heaven backwards and it would have some evil incantations.
For whatever reason I was flipping channels and remember the 700 Club with Pat Roberts talking about Ac/DC's Back in Black being supremely evil.

In Robert Anton Wilson’s Illuminatus!, a Satanic orgy summoned the Devil…who came in the form of Billy Graham. One of the hardest laughs I’ve ever had from a novel.
