San Francisco delivers alcohol, tobacco and weed to addicts quarantined in hotels

Not really. It makes sense.
Hell, the main reason they included cigarettes in WWII emergency rations was to stave off nicotine withdrawals in dire situations.

I understand that these are private donations and can do whatever they want with them but they would be much better spent on education and rehabilitation. I can at least rationalize the alcohol part. If you put a bunch of homeless alcoholics in a hotel/shelter then you'll have a pretty nasty situation when it comes to alcohol withdrawal. Then you end up with an ER full of homeless San Franciscans that are going through withdrawal.

This isn't a medical facility. Not very smart to have 300 people detoxing at the same time in a hotel.

Do they know that their money is being used for this?
Are these the same people who want to tell me I can’t gather in a place, I can’t go to a restaurant, no sports, everything closed in the name of safety?

I understand that, I'm just saying that as soon as the private funds dry up, they will all be right back on the streets and hospitals exactly where they started. It's a shitty short term solution for a large problem. What else are you going to do though I guess
