A salt water pool is a chlorine pool. You just generate your own chlorine from the salt water instead of adding chlorine tablets.

My dad has had a salt water pool for 10 or so years and no issues.

I have chlorine and it's just fine. A buddy got a salt water pool and is having several issues. Chlorine is fairly easy. I spend about 2 hours a week keeping up with mine.

I hear different stories... Yes people have corrosion issues with salt... Also heard you get some staining in your plaster with salt..
My parents still have their chlorine pool, for almost 50 years... Still functions great... Still has the original pipes...
However, salt is much cheaper...

Hard to corrode PVC with salt. I love my chlorine generated pool.

A heater lasts 5 years with a salt pool, but only 60 months with a chlorine pool.

We have a pool with a copper ion system ... bought the house and they had changed it from a salt system. We had to buy another copper bar and it's a company from BR; off of Millerville my husband told me I think.
He does nothing other than add muratic acid and clorox (yes clorox please don't ask why cause IDK) now and again when he needs to ... and we change the copper bar when it's time .. it was changed last June before we moved adn we just changed it in May.
When I tell you it's ALWAYS beautiful I'm not kidding. I just asked him today about the cost difference and he said the guy at the store told him over the phone that it was about $1400 not much different from salt or chlorine
When I tell you my husband doesn't spend that much every month I'm not kidding.

Clorox is bleach, AKA chlorine.. It's an alkaloid, it's used to balance the ph, same reason for putting muratic acid in it...
