He doesn't have to do it often and it's not the bagged stuff that's expensive. All I know is he's way happy with this.
People before said they changed it due to the salt system rusting their fans/furniture/whatever else outside. Some here say that that doesn't happen and I'm not arguing I'm just stating what we were told by previous owners.

Chlorine causes the same issues. They were probably running their levels too high.
Honestly, it is not that difficult. Nor is it very time consuming. Have you seen the rocket scientists that build pools?

Salt only way to go IMO - main problem is people take their water to a pool store to get tested, chances are you get residual readings from the previous person than pay for a bunch of chemicals you don't need - buy a good titration test kit (TF test kits) do it yourself weekly. Key chemical in this climate is CYA.

Salt is pretty corrosive but I wouldn't have anything else. Be prepared to drop $5 a week in Muriatic acid to lower the PH. The salt Chlorinators run up the PH high making it hard for the salt cell to work.

40lb bucket of 3" tabs at Leslie's is $130. 50lb bucket on Amazon is under $100. No tax. Free shipping.
Also if you do the salt water generator the pool company will install your first one. They give out after 2-3 years. Pool company charges a grand to change. One costs 300-500 on Amazon. The install involves a couple wires.

I have chlorine and it is easy and relatively cheap to maintain. I have known several with salt who have had issues with expensive repairs.

Swimming in a salt water pool is better than swimming in a chlorine pool. Easier on the eye burn, feels better, just a nicer experience. Sure they are both "chlorine" pools but they are not the same when you are bobbing around in them. Upkeep, corrosion factor and all that can be debated. Swimming factor salt is King.

If your eyes are burning after swimming in a chlorine only pool that just means the people in charge of the chemicals don't know how to properly balance the ph of the water. Too many pool owners think that if you just throw a bunch of chlorine in the water then you're good. The ph level of your eye fluid is anywhere between 7.0-7.3. That's where the ph of a pool should be at all times. Anything about that will burn your eyes.
