Duke, are we talking catastrophic in those areas or power loss etc? Basically should we get the F out?

I'm in New Orleans, Uptown practically on St. Charles. I'm expecting power outages and leaving today but as I mentioned earlier my wife is 8 months pregnant.

This won't be Laura winds. Not enough time I don't think. I am concerned about some rapid Intensification potential near landfall but it's going to be hard to know exactly what we're dealing with until it's rolling up. Could be Cat 1. Could be low end Cat 3.

The rain plus surge is the primary concern. You gotta pump the rain somewhere and at this angle the places you pump will be rising with the surge.

Everyone reading knows their area. Flood prone generally, I'd consider leaving this evening and hopefully it's for nothing. It's the flooding, again, that's the biggest concern.

Don't deal with street flooding much, in a good structure, and can deal with a couple of days without power? Right now you'd be fine staying I think.

The intensity at this time is for a Cat 1. That should not be catastrophic but a power outage pain in the arse.

Damn, all these people displaced from Laura in NOLA now staring down Sally. Definitely freaked out about NOLA and Old Metairie.

I wouldn't be leaving if it wasn't for the fact that we're prob gonna be without power for an extended period.

Prob head to the in-laws on the northshore tomorrow after work.

Asked earlier but should one plan to board windows in Metairie near lake?

I’ve worked in LC the past two weekends and I didn’t see much boarded up at all. Also didn’t see much window damage besides that large office building.

Boarding up is a better safe than sorry move, but not a necessity IMO. If you have lots of room around your home out in the sticks, I’d be more concerned with boarding up.

In laws on the Northshore

Serious question: do you think the Northshore is less susceptible to power outages? My brother lives in Mandeville but I would think he is just as at risk as we are.

I'm in St Charles Parish with a 6 months pregnant wife. Planning to see what the 4 pm update looks like first, but probably leaving today as well. The wife's family is in St Francisville, so it's an easy decision on where to go.

Yeah I always find people worry to much about what category a storm is. That really only affects a small area anyway. The flooding from a slow mover and power loss is more concerning.

I got a good spot in BR and I'm out after this shitshow of an F1 race finishes. Have to be up there early in the morning tomorrow anyway.

I'd not worry about the 4 pm and just roll up to your in laws when you feel like it today or tomorrow. It's not like you're getting a hotel or it's that far away.

ETA: lack of sleep has me repeating shite

Well it actually shifted from Venice to GI, so... yeah, it didn’t shift all that far. 40 miles or so at best.

I'm just across the river from there. Would say to meet up for drinks, but will be heading to Houston Wednesday.

Laura Bechtel with WWL-TV said it’ will now be a Cat 2 with 100 mph winds at landfall in NOLA.

7-11 ft storm surge for Nola area.
