It really is uncanny how well they've done this year in regards to intensity. Development and tracking has left a lot to be desired, but intensity has been spot on.
It is going to end up being a valuable year, data-wise, for the global models, but they will be shite on for a while because of it.

The HWRF has gotten very good at intensity. It even got an eyewall replacement cycle right on a typhoon like a week ago. It's just too bad you need an invest to fire it up at this point.
It's up there with the Euro and GFS-para ensembles as the first models I look at every run.

I think 2020 will go down as quite possibly one of the worst years in history of this nation and we still got an election that could get ugly . Anyway good luck you guys with what looks like another hurricane.

Both HMON and HWRF nailed Laura and Marco days out on intensity. Hell, the GFS wasn't even picking up on Laura while HMON was showing a near major hurricane making landfall. You had to look for the low just to find Laura, and it was north of Cuba just off the tip of the Florida peninsula.
I think the global models have struggled with that lack of airplane data and sloppy setups more than anyone knows right now. It has been a terrible season to be consistently missing a chunk of data.

It's been too strong in the past but damn if it hasn't proven its self this year. It was one of the reasons I was talking Cat 3 the weekend before Laura but I was underestimating its skill too fwiw.
