The outer edge of the band of dust, which is hundreds of miles long, should reach the Texas and Louisiana coasts early Wednesday, according to a forecast model operated by NASA’s Global Modeling and Assimilation Office.
quote:On Monday, the dust had created a dense brown haze over several Caribbean islands. Damn you 2020
The most intense dust should arrive just after midnight on Saturday, and the haze should disappear for a brief period next Monday, with a new, less-intense wave of dust arriving the next day. The biggest swath of dust will cover parts of Texas and all of Louisiana, and then head east across the southern United States, exiting the East Coast on July 2, according to the model.

Will the dust be similar to the Mist?

This one is the biggest outbreak of dust in a long time.
While the air quality will suck for a day or two, this does shut down hurricane season until the dust and dry air goes away.
On balance, probably a win.

Milk and bread are about to be in short supply.

Amazing how some people ask for their rights to be stripped from them.

My in-laws were stressing about this when we were there Sunday. I said "Y'all know this happens every year. Its basically a dry hurricane of sorts as its the same winds that carry storms from Africa across the Atlantic."
They all looked at me like I was crazy

Jim Cantore was saying yesterday that this dust, floating between 20-30k feet, will provide for some amazing sunsets and sunrises as the silica sand particles scatter the sunlight, resulting in bright red and orange light when the sun is on either horizon.

Do I need toilet paper, hand sanitizer and masks....or do I need bread, milk, and fill up all the gas cans?
