The official name of the song has the word "Gangsta", not "Gangster". It's nitpicky, but it's the right call.

Why? The ruling was correct.

That being said, with songs and albums it can get tricky. Technically, if the question is “What is ‘Callin’ Baton Rouge’?”, if someone says “calling”, it should be wrong.

Yeah the ruling was right. Jeopardy is very nitpicky like this.

I’m aware of the title. However, it’s the same word. Jeopardy frequently has answers that are words from other languages that are mispronounced by the contestants. Are they going to start taking those away too?

Would they accept “guns and roses” as an answer? I bet they would.

This wasn't though. Gangsta and gangster are 2 different words.

That's amazing and completely the correct ruling.

I agree...

But why don't they get people for answering with the wrong Who/What is/are pairs?

That's actually an interesting point. It reminds me of a guy on Wheel of Fortune who lost a round because he mispronounced Achilles. In reality, probably no one pronounces that word correctly since it's foreign. I still think it's BS that they counted it wrong.

If the contestant had been British, would the judges have known that he was correcting Coolio's mispronunciation, or that he was pronouncing the word on the album's title? Gangster in British English sounds identical to Gangsta.

And I think if you misspell a final Jeopardy! response you don't win either.

So why is that acceptable?

And not using Who/What Is/Are correctly?

Who knows. Jeopardy has their own rules and they can do whatever they want. Sometimes I think that they’re way too lax on accepting last names only.
