No they're not "just like" us. They're religious radicals living in a a Muslim country that doesn't tolerate anything but Shariah. They may not be beheading people but they are every bit as devout as the Muslims who are. To assume they are just like us ignores the fact that they do not share any western beliefs or values. The only reason they aren't brutalizing a tribal rival is cause Putin is blowing their asses off.
As for killing everyone, I'd suggest you read the history of past world wars. We didn't always approach combat worried about collateral damage or civilian casualties. We went in with the intention of utter destruction and vanquishing of the enemy-soldier or civilian. Ever heard of Hiroshima? Did we worry then? No. And we won.

It only works two ways for them. One of which is to completely isolate ourselves or we completely destroy them by going all out without regard to casualties

Highly recommend watching, especially for anyone that supports Putin or even think that he has any sort of strategic brilliance. The nuts and bolts of it is that he's a gangster with no way off the top, no way to retire because when he does so his past actions and enemies will quickly eat him alive.
