No way. Publix cannot find the types of employees they want in Louisiana which is why they've never opened a store here.

St George is a good employee suppository.

Would rather an HEB. Fresh and affordable tortillas and queso > overpriced refrigerated sandwiches.

The bottom line is Publix prices, here at least, are absolutely laughable when compared to the other regular grocery chains in Lexington.

They are similar to Winn Dixie in that their regular prices are stupid high but their sales especially BOGO are good.

They are not like Winn Dixie in that Publix has nice employees and clean stores.

Publix is much better than what we have in Mandeville. The Publix by our condo in perdido Key is a great store. The prices are higher - but so is everything at the beach. The sales are very good deals. I find they almost always have something on sale for whatever food category I'm shopping.

Publix deli subs are for people on vacation or too lazy to go to a deli and get meat sliced for sandwiches to make their own. They're nothing special. I've had several and concluded I could make way better subs with a little effort.

By this logic every sandwich chain is nothing special

This. Nine times out of ten you’ll have a better interaction with employees in a Publix than you will in other big grocery chains in the South. I’d be surprised if they expand into MS and LA due to the prospective employee pool.

Central Alabama would be the closest to Baton Rouge.

Probably too far away

I always thought the best way for LA to get a Publix or HEB would be via a merger. I think HEB would be a better “fit” with Rouses. Both chains lean heavy into local and have solid self labeled items (HEB has a lot more)

But a chain of rouses size lacking their own DC probably hurts their merger chances.

High quality, but very high prices too.

Great bakery, and the buffalo chicken sub is the best item in the whole store.

I suspect that this rumor comes from a rendering of the retail space that came with the plans that were submitted.

There are almost 100 Publix stores in all of Alabama. Publix would still have to build a few stores Mississippi before expanding out to Louisiana. There are few Rouses stores in coastal Alabama. Each store has its own flavor and really do not compete much with each other. When Winn Dixie disappeared in Foley(and most everywhere else in Alabama) a couple of months ago, Rouses was unsuccessful in its bid to take over the real estate. What a bummer. I like both stores brands with each having its own flavor. Rouses has the best seafood department that i have seen for any grocery store chain. It also has a good produce and meat department. Nothing wrong with any of these to departments at Publix, but the problem is the merchandise is way too expensive.

Right now Publix is expanding big time into Louisville and Lexington areas of Kentucky. Northern Kentucky is an under served as far as grocery stores are concerned. Publix is also expanding in the southern half of Virginia and is building a stores a far north a Winchester and Woodbridge. To go any further north, the company will have to build a new distribution center and likewise to Louisiana.

It’s not. Publix has no infrastructure in La.

When vacationing in Florida or South Alabama - I have never thought Publix was overpriced compared to the other groceries

The subs are overrated
