Publix comes in a variety of sizes, including ones down to 20,000 to 25,000 sq. ft. The downtown Birmingham store is one of those smaller stores, and it just ain't the same as the regular Publix stores.

I enjoy my Publix in NC

I’d rather have an HEB.

No they aren't. I would welcome a Rouses in a heartbeat. Publix is just a green Kroger.

The bottom line is Publix prices, here at least, are absolutely laughable when compared to the other regular grocery chains in Lexington. I could just go to Fresh Market or Whole Foods for higher end products for what Publix wants to charge for products that Kroger et al stock already. It makes no sense.
There are some Krogers in Jxn MS, I sometimes go to one when I'm there -- I get a sense of nostalgia from Kroger, since they were in BR when I was a kid (mid '80s). I remember them as reasonably priced, but the Jxn ones are pretty expensive. If Publix is higher than Kroger it would put them at Albersons level.
Never been in a Publix, always been curious why they're so popular. If they're just Albertson's w/a better deli I won't be going there.

I’d be shocked unless they are planning on opening multiple stores in LA, MS, AL.
There are already plenty of Publix stores in Alabama.

They damn near snuff out Walmart in my area. High as hell, but the shopping experience and quality is good.

Meh.
You tell me H.E.B is coming to Baton Rouge now that would be news.

Didn’t realize they were in South Bama. I thought they stopped at Pensacola.
The real question is where is the warehouse the stores in South Bama are pulling from? For a store to come to LA, they need a warehouse close by to pull from. Maybe there is one in Alabama?

Holy crap are they way overpriced.
That’s because you aren’t buying the Publix store brand. The Publix store brand is as good or better than a lot of the name brands.

We have publix here, and one is being built 10 minutes from my house. Their deli/bakery is good, but groceries are way higher than Kroger or Walmart

Man, they have been in North Alabama for 10 years.
I'm sure there is a D.C. but I don't know exactly where.

Do most of our shopping at publix, there are 3 on my 12 minute commute and another two within 5 mins of the house.
I’m a loyalist but it isn’t life changing. But deli is good, pharmacy is good, everything is easy and there is minimal riff raff. Ours very a lot here, some are small and a bit lacking in selection, while a couple have bars in them.

This is according to Google Maps.
Central Alabama would be the closest to Baton Rouge.
A Publix in Baton Rouge would fill up the grocery market in Baton Rouge with some big names.
Super1Foods(Brookshires) just opened a store there in one of the former Winn Dixie locations. Then you have Rouses, Walmart, Matherne’s, Whole Foods, several local markets, Target, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Aldi, etc.
I have posted here this, Rouses’s big issue with future growth and expansion comes from the fact that it doesn’t self distribute, they are still using AWG for most of its distribution. Once they break free and start self distributing that makes them more of a self sufficient regional grocer, and that is when a Publix or an HEB would consider a jump on the Rouses footprint. Rouses has probably grown to a multi-billion dollar grocery empire as it expands within its footprint.
Crazy to think that a small grocery store in Houma started it all. Heck one the nation’s largest LTL trucking company has its roots in Houma, SAIA. Although it is not headquartered there anymore as it was sold and passed around other trucking companies in the late 1980’s and through the 1990’s, it was ultimately spun off on its own in the 2000’s.

Congrats on buying one Publix branded item, deciding you don’t like it, and then coming to the conclusion that it all is overpriced and sucks.
