I'm an a-hole when I travel, but I'm not that inconsiderate. I honestly get the lack of care when you travel, but what you are describing is taking it to another level. That's childish and is begging for someone to call them out on it.

I have an airport persona that involves me not smiling, making chit chat with the airline employees or other people in the lounge. I'm not talking to anyone that I don't absolutely have to interact with. I don't want to know or see any of you - even if those of you who I know or like.

More or less I am moving through airports and into lines rapidly with my ear buds on and don't like being bothered with the slow pokes and shitty employees in the terminal. I don't look to far in front of me because I find that people are more likely to get out of my way if they think I'm not paying attention. And I don't make eye contact because I don't want to stop and talk to anyone that might vaguely recognize me or want something from me. If the only person I speak to is the flight attendant that takes my drink order....that's a huge win.

If you knew me IRL, you'd be shocked at how different my airport persona is from the rest of my life.

The way I see it is that when I travel, I'm essentially luggage (which is how I'm treated by the airlines anyways). It's not happy or social. I drink sometimes on the plane, answer emails sometimes, and maybe catch a nap but I consider it lost time out of my life where I have no other option but to take some much needed alone time.

I'm rude, but listening to my phone conversations or videos without headphones would be a huge conflict with my airport persona. Someone might try to talk to me if my earbuds aren't in my ears.

I'll vent on this.

This airport stretches and tests my "don't speak to anyone" philosophy. The signage is horrible, the club/lounges are too far apart, and the layout is confusing AF. It's not a bad O-D airport and some of the newer terminals are awesome, but it's a terrible place for layovers.

American Airlines sucks, but I'm willing to deal with their bullshite because United likes to shuttle everyone through really crappy hubs like IAH.
