re: Route unveiled for Baton Rouge streetcar connecting LSU and downtown

The proposed route is one of several steps city officials and their planning team have to complete as they rush to secure funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the project. The city-parish has already received federal planning funds to design the project, but it now has to complete a detailed and lengthy process in order to qualify at the federal level for some of the $100 million in funds it will take to actually build the line, now officially called TramLink BR.
It wasn't too long ago people were saying the Feds would pay for all of the project, and it wouldn't cost tax payers anything.
Now the price tag is in question ( a similar project in Tuscon, Ariz. cost 197 million and it was shorter at 3 miles). Funding sources are in question.
The route begins at Skip Bertman and Nicholson and heads north through downtown to North St.
What a mess that will be at the corner of Skip Bertman and Nicholson. There is hardly any parking left at that corner M-F. Shouldn't the project terminate where there is a lot of open parking not normally used? Shouldn't the idea be to get less cars headed to LSU in the mornings not to LSU so they can ride the Tram? And conversely people shouldn't have to go downtown to catch the Tram to ride to LSU. Downtown adjacent to the river is tight for parking anyway.
I can't see it being that big of a benefit for anyone other downtown dwellers and LSU dwellers and those in between. In time it might help the corridor grow, but that's a lot of money to spend for three miles of public transportation when it seems busses could be just as good.

That's been happening for at least the last 5-6 years.

Can get 100 million for a rail car but no money towards a new bridge.
This is one fricked up state.

This is bullshite. It will just make it easier for lsu students to get downtown and get drunk. It should never be allowed to happen. It's bad enough that the bus system perpetuates rape and alchoholism for the students by allowing them ease of travel between tigerland, campus, and the surrounding apartments, now they want to add in gambling?

All of this ...

Please tell me my understanding of this proposal is incorrect...
A single car is going to travel from campus to downtown and return on the same track without dual tracks allowing for multiple cars or allowing multiple cars to travel on the same track...
Did I read that correctly?

They really want to waste 100 million on that shite?
Ho many people would actually use this?

If they're being bought and flipped, I can't tell. I drive through those streets as a cut across quite regularly. And let's say you can point out a few houses. Who the frick is going to move there? That entire neighborhood needs to be purged for anybody to consider it.

This is a great idea. It probably won't become immediately overrun with degredation and undesirables.

Many are being bought and demolished. Take a look at al of the houses between Alaska Street and Nicholson between McKinley and the Natatorium. Nearly all of them have either been demolished and turned into large complexes or completely redone and look nice now.

Ok, that's Nicholson. Now what about the houses on all the streets going West to East though?

The bars downtown are lightyears better once you are actually 21.

Now we only have 734 more blocks to go.
