Anyone tried them? Reviews online look good, just finished my four week test drive, with 10/10 driving score and everything capped out except consistancy, and they offered me to go frick myself, no offer. Average 1k miles a month, no tickets in the past 8 years, and 20 years with no at-fault wrecks. So.... wtf? Anyone actually got a quote from them?

"We use an app to rate drivers based on how they actually drive—not just their demographics. By not insuring bad drivers, Root is able to save good drivers as much as 52% on their car insurance."

"The Root app tracks your driving (think braking, turns, and how much you drive) and uses that information to calculate your rate. If you’re a good driver, you’ll receive a quote—the better driver you are, the better your rate will be."

Sounds like you're a shite driver, Danica Patrick.

They'd quote my wife 1k per month

Lol, StuckTiger. You couldn’t give me like, Dead Earnhart Sr? In the app, they literally rate you on all that so you know how your score is. They were all capped, except consistancy which if you have red lights on your route, can’t be.

Looked on app reviews instead of online, and apparently this sort of thing is rampant.

I tried it last month. Got 10/10 but the quote ended up being about $50 higher than my dirt-cheap 6-month premium with Geico. Promptly uninstalled and unsubscribed from what I assume would be a lifetime of nagging e-mails about the quote.

I kinda feel like the whole thing is just a ruse to make you feel like your saving money. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even gather the driving data. Just tell people to install an app and then send them a quote regardless of what the app thinks.

I signed up in July. I bought a new car and Geico quoted me around $200 more over the six moth policy. Root actually saved me around $450 total with the paying in full discount.

I’m pretty sure they make money on the back end selling data.
