Back in my yout, the 18 age was usually considered merely a suggestion. I could buy beer as young as 15 in Bogalusa.

same here, I started buying beer at 15, don't recall ever being carded until I was almost 18 and that was trying to get in a new popular bar in town, there was a 7-11 across the street from school that we'd stop and knock off a quart or two of Schlitz, Old Milwaukee, or Miller High Life, whichever was on sale, after football/basketball/baseball practice, sometimes the guy selling to us would ask something like, "how are we going to do against so and so Friday night? can we whoop'em?"

Tbh I have zero issue with this. Teenagers are immature as shite. They largely don't have self control. They are already naturally prone to do stupid shite. Alcohol just increases that likelihood of doing stupid shite 10xfold.

Yeah, because 21 year olds are generally known for stellar decision making.

the Navy did a study, a looonng time ago, about the affects of alcohol on flying, control group was no booze, a pilot would a have a drink and perform some task, two drinks, and so on, the optimum performance and best scores came after about a six pack of beer, and the test was done multiple times

I’ve always had an issue with this law and have stated as such. Pick an age that represents adulthood and stick to it. 18, 21, whatever. Vote, drink, join military, marry, etc without parental/guardian consent.

if you're old enough to die for your country you're old enough to drink.

I’d rather they drink than vote.

Personally, I'd be on board with raising the voting age to 21. At age 18, you're either still in high school, or a freshman in college. Kids these age don't have a clue about politics or what's important. They're either voting for whomever their parents say, or they'll just go opposite of their parents if still in their rebel stage.
