Good luck to you. I don't run them, but I've played on stage for a few of them.

tonight's dinner is way more important than tomorrow night's dinner. You don't want to eat a heavy dinner the night before the race - eat good tonight and lunch tomorrow. Then have a nice light meal tomorrow night.

i do a different approach.

i eat big the days leading up to the race and wake up early and eat a decent sized breakfast about 2-2.5 hours before the race (i find this is very important for me on long runs).

I don't disagree with this. Though I can't eat too big leading up to the race because I'm tapering and don't want to put too much weight on. The point I was trying to make was a lot of people make the mistake of eating a huge pasta dinner the night before the race and this can cause problems on a number of fronts race day morning.

this is why i find a pre-race dump to be imperative.

Ran the Houston Half a few weeks ago...was my first time. It was awesome...can't wait to run one again.

My time was 1:52...I was aiming for under 2 hours. Before the race, the longest I had run was 7 miles, so I am hoping I can get under 1:45 with more training.

Don't plan to run any more races until the fall...I can see how this can be addicting...

This sounds like me. The most I ran during my training was 10 miles.

Thanks for the insight! I will get a 1-3 miles in later today before my workout then rest tomorrow.

Might do like you said and eat good tonight then light tomorrow night.

You used to like beer, sports, and cheerleaders.
What happened?

The biggest problem is having to take a major shite during the race.

The race day vibe can be addicting especially for the bigger races. Triathlon race day vibe is even better - in the transition area.

How big is this problem exactly? How can you avoid mishaps?

Some family and friends are running the half in memory of my cousin that passed away in Nov. She was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer about ten years ago and made it her goal to run a marathon. She ran this one in 2010. Running was her focus and release. They'll all be in matching shirts.

I've never run this type of distance before, but I do ride bikes. Morning is my make poo time anyways, and I'm pretty regular. I ate mexican before my first century, woke up and took a great dump before the ride. Cleaned out my system pretty well, since I eat a lot of carbs/electrolytes that dont sit on my stomach during the ride. 5 hours on the bike, no poo issues.

It's a problem for a lot of people. Trying to load up on carbs and energy the days before the race combined with nervous stomachs race morning creates a perfect storm. That's why some of the nastiest places on earth are the porta potties near the start line at big races.

I am not a morning pooper...so I have to deal with it...didn't bother me unless I had some gatorade or one of the energy jelly beans along the route...that made me cramp a little.

I am no expert and am slow but of it helps I started trying different things when I got up to one hour. I had sports beans or cytomax chews and bring my own hydration (Gatorade isn't for me), I use cytomax. Depending you may need something every 30 minutes or so (from my books) ... I typically eat:drink every 2.5 miles or so ... Just how it works for me.

Good luck! I agree with the pre race poop ..... I know, yuk.
