After what happened with Chris Kyle lying about his kill count, and Marcus Luttrell embellishing what happened in the Lone Survivor story, I don’t believe a damn word of what a former SF soldier says about his military career. It’s all for clout and fame so they can sell books and get rich off how gullible the general population is

Human nature at its best…like crabs in a bucket.
A man does something others aren’t willing and/or capable of doing like being selected for and operating as a SpecOps warrior and then that man is attacked by the crabs in the bucket.
Funny how the SEAL command staff had no problem going overt and using SEALs to act in ‘Act of Valor’ movie same year of OBL raid and McRaven and his ilk inking book deals and becoming a national star for telling college kids to make their beds, but the guys who suffer for the rest of their lives for doing the dirty work get Monday morning QB’d by folks who should just say thank you.

There is no dispute that O’Neill put the kill shot in OBL.
The point man may OR may not have hit OBL…we’ll never know because no forensics were done prior to the sea dump.
Bissonnette pumped security rounds into OBL…but he wasn’t the kill shot.

They should never have named Marcinko as the first commander of ST6. 40+ years on, his loose-cannon ethos still permeates the culture. Meanwhile you'd be hard pressed to find a news story, good or bad, featuring a current or former D Boy.
Dirty Dick the operator actually did a lot of good for DEVGRU and the US in general even being a little loose with the regs ie Red Cell. Richard Marcinko the attention whore did a lot of bad for the teams in general. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if every new member of ST6 or the teams, in general, got a little first right of refusal cash from a publisher.
Agreed that, though they were not perfect for the mission, 1st SFOD-D would have never said a word except maybe on their deathbed to their grandson.

Again, the “quiet professional” is virtuous as a mantra but in reality has only existed amongst a handful of folks…just an example of the “old breed” from Delta making $ by “kissing and telling”:

Chris Kyle lied about his kill count ? Never heard or read that.

I kind of think he should have a special “I killed bin Laden” card that stipulates the most cops can do is bring him home.

Quiet professional is a well stated term for this. I don’t think he should be capitalizing on it personally but I can see why he’s doing it.

Mike Vining was at the tip of the spear from Vietnam up through Desert Storm and he hasn't said a damn word. There are lots of others like him.
