AKR is a pretty cool dive oriented place

I went on cruise (trashy, I know) that stopped there. Prettiest place we stopped the whole trip.

I have only one response: if you're going to snorkel on the reef, for God's sake WEAR SUN SCREEN ON YOUR BACK. This is experience talking

Check out Barefootcay.com Private resort Island with dive shop. Oceanfront bungalows. Lobster right out of your front door.

Great local food, and yes definately stay in West End. Lots of little eateries that you could get to easily with taxi or rental car and worth it. Ask your dive master and boat captain about fishing and they can arrange a spontaneous, cheaper, and better offshore trip than you could get if you asked the concierge. You must get the "Alert Diver" magazine - they had a big article on Roatan.
This
Plus, everything can be bargained - if one of the locals says a taxi is $5 bucks, say no and they'll drop it to $2 bucks. Also, the big drink there is "Giffeney" (misspelled?) - it's a run infused with indigenous roots. On the West End, we had some of the best calamri I ever had, and they cook some damn good Lion fish too. Finally, we played golf at Pristine Bay and it was awesome. Hope this helped.

GF and I went there on a cruise. We did a dive trip and absolutely loved it. Diving there was better than Belize. With that said, I don't know much other than that because that's all we really did.

We are going there in a month and renting this house on the beach in west bay. LINK
According to all the reviews and speaking to the rental agent, there are restaurants less than 50 yards away and the house is only footsteps from the beach.
My wife went last year and said west bay is the nicest area to stay.
From what I've heard, there are frequent power outages as the island runs on generator power, and a lot of places charge for electricity...so be careful. The place we are renting has electricity included and also has an automatic backup generator and wifi.
I'll report back after June 24th if the sharks don't get me.

Initially, very attractive that United flies direct from Houston. Wife blah, blah, blah....
Speaking of attractive, pics of her and we'll be the judges.
Roatan has light plane service from Belize. Fun to mix the two locations.

look up Little French Key and plan to spend a day there. It's so beautiful and relaxing.
Swim right out to the reef from the bar.

I went there from a cruise last November. I paid to go on a excursion to some private place that had a zoo and supposedly the largest reef in the world. I had a lot of fun there. The snorkeling was awesome.

I have dived with Bananarama, Barefoot, and subway. All of them were excellent.
Saw this Toadfish and the spotted eagle ray last year at Turquoise Bay/subway watersports.

Cant comment on the diving but we did do a zip line tour right across from the Carnival Cruise Terminal and it was pretty legit.

Food is great. Baleadas, conch fritters, ceviche, lobster...yum.
I'd stay in west bay but there are other good spots.
The diving is awesome. Riding a drift was one of the coolest things I've ever done.

About $3k for a week. It's a great 3 bedroom condo. Highly recommended.

is it directly on the beach?
Posted on 5/18/15 at 8:07 pm to Lester Earl
You saw the pic from the balcony. Front door is on the other side so you have to walk down stairs and maybe 50 steps around the building. Comes with your own chairs for beach use. From the balcony it's 20 feet to the water if you could go that way.
2nd floor condo with a 3rd bedroom on the 3rd floor.
