Yep. I do believe electric holds a place, but we are a long way from getting off some sort of oil kick totally.

To think that a truck like Rivian is available and satisfies the needs of 98% of the population is pretty impressive.

Except DTE calculations are very optimistic, it would probably only get 30 miles of that last 44.

Thought Rivian was using the same system the Lightning was using.

They also don't charge linear. 2 1 hour charges are better than one 3 hour charge (times used are for demonstration).

Never rode in a newer electric vehicle but if it’s anything like a golf cart you start losing power when when battery is almost fully discharged.
Your golf cart probably had a lead acid battery, and the discharge curve of a lithium-ion battery is much different. They maintain steady voltage until they're pretty much fully discharged.

Guess we need to start on the electric planes.
They're already on it, the economics look very good for short hops.

Pretty much exactly the opposite. A Tesla will drive 10-20 miles further than it tells you, and I'd imagine Rivian/Ford/etc will do similar.

Yes this is obviously accounted for in the range calculation. Do you think these engineers and software developers are stupid? Don't you think they've made sure that the vehicle will get you to the charging stations that the vehicle is aware of and which it routes you to?

The trucks are capable if weighing themselves and adjust their mileage. Pretty cool system.

This is the goal no matter how much you say it isn’t. So yeah, you might not be paying at the pump anymore but you will be paying that fricking electric bill because the cost of entergy is and will go up.

My hedge against that in 2022 is to buy one Acura twin turbo MDX and then a Lightning. I'll put a trailer hitch on the MDX also.

It's a good thing you slugs weren't around when this came out. You all would have said it is useless and made jokes about how this technology would never replace your trusty old horse drawn wagon

Moving from a horse drawn wagon to a gasoline vehicle enabled people to go greater distances, and get their faster. All the EVs have less range, and in many cases will take me longer to reach my destination due to charging, and give me less freedom than the gas powered vehicle I currently drive, it’s a step backward. And with the continued increase in electric rates any perceived economic benefits will likely go away.

Not at first.

Lack of paved (or even dirt) roads made cars extremely limited.

I think long run these are going to be fine. The first generation will get copped by every tech bro that moved to Denver and hikes on asphalt trails for the weekend and calls it adventure.

They’ve already discussed selling a range extender (+100 miles) that’ll fit in the bed for scenarios provided in OP. I think the initial pricing for it is dumb tho

As did the lack of places to get gas. That seems to be one of the arguments against electric vehicles. The availability and speed of charging will greatly increase over the next few years. Those against electric trucks will change their tune as they get smoked by electric vehicles moving forward. Most have never even driven one. The fastest production vehicle is now electric....the Tesla Plaid will smoke anything on the road all day every day.

What nimrod would buy a truck with 150 mile range doing work. That junk will be the rage for rhinestone cowboys in the city hauling milk home for the jip

If it can’t do what I need done that makes it effectively, junk. But by all means get you one and keep those walking shoes clean

Side effects of Rivian may include, ball-shrinkage, loss of appetite, loss of poontang, erotic feelings towards the Aggie colors, and a tendency to really appreciate musical theater.

Looking forward to not getting bitches pregnant, staying skinny, massive amounts of blowjobs, jackin it to hooker horns, and watching burlesque shows while touring 120 miles worth of downtown towing a party camper behind my brand new Rivian
