Why haven't "they" (EV Manufacturers) considered solar panel/mobile chargers to recharge the vehicle? It seems like the biggest issue with EV's is limited range & having to stop/recharge for longer trips.

Yeah, I realized my mistake.

200 miles is weak.

Don’t all of these companies grossly overestimate their ranges?

The 314 & 316 miles (for truck & SUV, respectively) is EPA-rated so would assume somebody came and checked their work. Car and Driver Article

It looks like a damn brick hurtling down the highway so I could see how it would be lower, but woof that's quite a delta

That looks like total range, not electric only.

Nevermind... that's what they are claiming as electric range as well.

With or without the AC on full blast, music and possibly windshield wipers?

I’d take either. Hopefully Rivian sticks around and the prices come down a bit, might be my next vehicle.

Even that is shitty. Do to the lack of charging stations and time it takes to recharge, versus convenience of gas stations and refill time for a similar ICE vehicle, they should be aiming for more total range than an ICE by a couple hundred miles.

Not that I disagree, they claim to have a power-pack to boost range to 400+ miles in a few years. The charging infrastructure for road trips will suck for the next decade, but having something like this as a car for the city (how often will you realistically drive more than 200 miles in a single day?) where you can slow charge every night, like any other electronic device, makes the range anxiety pill easier to swallow.

Guessing Rivian hired designers from Toyota?

R1S has slightly higher range than the truck despite lower MPGe/higher kWh/100mi with presumably the same battery and drivetrain?

You get like 100 mi range when towing ??

Towing in cold weather you would probably get 50.

It's perfect for that usage, but then you're limited if you don't also have an ICE available. There's been plenty of times where I have made spur of the moment/last minute decisions to take a trip that I would have been unable to do or unable to do without planning for in the typical EV.

EVs for now, are only suited for your typical city slicker that doesn't get out much past local places with their vehicle.

The EV has always been a vehicle made for the city driver.

You dont' buy one with the intention of taking it on vacation 1000 miles away, or if you drive 400 miles a week for work. That's just not what it's for.
And for the guy that wants to mount solar panels on them, how we extract power from solar panels is extremely inefficient. That would add hardly anything to the longevity of the batteries.

I'm very interested in one, but i would still have a gas vehicle. I'd also not want to spend $75K on a souped up golf cart to drive around the city either. that number needs to come down significantly considering the realistic range is maybe 200 miles on a charge. I'd pay $75k if the realistic range was closer to 600 miles.

Fair enough but Tesla doesn't make a practical SUV/crossover style vehicle.
