[link=(It is with our deepest sympathy and sadness that we have to advise, that we lost our brother, friend, family member, songwriter and guitarist, Gary Rossington, today.
Gary is now with his Skynyrd brothers and family in heaven and playing it pretty, like he always does.

Please keep Dale, Mary, Annie and the entire Rossington family in your prayers and respect the family’s privacy at this difficult time.

Ole baw’s brain preceded him in death by about 15 years. RIP Gary.

The last rebel on the road.

Buddy and I went to a record store signing when the Last a Rebel album came out and he seemed like a nice guy who was still happy to have fans still coming out.

The solo from Freebird was, is, and always will be one of greatest examples of guitar playing ever. RIP

The day young Skynyrd died.
We'd show our southern pride.

Play it pretty, Gary.

Freebird Oakland 1977

One of the greatest videos of all time, and the guitar work by him and the others was flawlessly in sync.

The last rebel on the road.

Grew up (sorta) in a single parent home.

quote:

He credited Van Zant, who was three years his senior, with teaching him and his bandmates how to drive a car, as well as introducing them to "all that stuff you learn when you're 14, 15, 16".

quote:

It was Rossington's love of baseball that indirectly led to the formation of Lynyrd Skynyrd in the summer of 1964. He, Ronnie Van Zant, and Bob Burns became acquainted while playing on rival Jacksonville baseball teams and the trio decided to jam together one afternoon after Burns was injured by a ball hit by Van Zant. They set up their equipment in the carport of Burns' parents' house and played The Rolling Stones' then-current hit "Time Is on My Side". Liking what they heard, they immediately decided to form a band.[2] Naming themselves The Noble Five (with the additions of guitarist Allen Collins and bassist Larry Junstrom) they later changed the name of the band to The One Percent before eventually settling on the name Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1969.

The last original member. Those guys left their mark on rock history, and became legends.

“Tuesday’s Gone With the Wind”

Being the last survivor is overrated, I’ve heard from others.

I can only imagine the great music they would have put out had the crash not happened. I wasn’t even born when they died but grew up with their music with my parents and never knew that all their hits had come out in 5 years. Who knows how many more they would have had

I had tickets for the Baton Rouge show they were on their way to play when they crashed. Their music was a big part of my high school years. RIP Gary, I'm sure the band's back together and jammin in heaven.
