The height of his popularity was a little before my time, but I know of him through all the people in entertainment that I listen to today that respect the hell out of him.

He was great on the old Dean Martin celebrity roasts. He was a master of leading with a heart felt line and then letting you have it. So RIP you hockey puck.

My father loved Don Rickles and would let us stay up late to see him on Johnny Carson. The guy was hilarious.

I used to see him on David Letterman's shows a lot. Letterman seemed to really like him and was never a dick to him.
