I don't know.

I mean, I'm as big an Elvis Presley fan as there is, but even I'll admit it's pretty embarrassing to die sitting on the can.

That entire album has zero "skip" songs. Just one continuous masterpiece.

Slaves and Bulldozers is a song that can NEVER be covered vocally.

Godspeed, Chris.
You are missed.

Ok who do y'all think was more influential, Cornell or Vedder? They were both incredible and steered music at the time in a much better direction

Edit: my vote is Cornell had the better voice but Vedder more influential

those guys don't give a flying f**k about their influence in the music industry. They make the music that THEY love and don't give two shitz if it is popular or influential.

They have stated repeatedly their sadness of the way their music blew up in the industry.

quote:

Despite his success, Cornell felt ambivalent about the attention his hometown was getting, especially after Kurt Cobain's suicide. "It's hard not to be a little bitter about it," he said in a 1994 Rolling Stone interview. "We lost good friends in the process. And all of a sudden you realize that it's turned into something that's considered a fashion statement. It's like mining. It's like somebody came into your city with bulldozers and water compressors and mined your own perfect mountain and excavated it and threw out what they didn't want and left the rest to rot. It's that bad

I don't know if Cornell was as influential just because not many people could duplicate his voice. Vedder meanwhile spawned Weiland, Stapp, Kroeger, and a bunch of lame post grunge singers.

How dare you lump Weiland in with those other two.

I remember when STP came out and everyone said he was just ripping off Vedder. I think Weiland is a better singer but you can't deny he sounds a lot like Vedder, especially on the early STP albums. I think Stapp is decent too but most post grunge singers are just bland mumblers like Vedder.

Weiland has a much larger range than Vedder. I'm a Pearl Jam fan but Weiland was the superior vocalist. None can hold Cornell's jock from that time period though. Staley was probably #2.

No too many people could scream or hit the notes like Cornell did. Listen to times of trouble and outshined for examples.

This is true. They were a studio concoction, a formula of the grunge sound. They had a ot of hits, but this was definitely the perception.

I thought the earliest Creed songs were a new PJ album, because he sounded so similar.

Hunger Strike. Cornell's wail on top of Vedder's baritone is amazing.

STP has always been my favorite band out of the group. Just a personal taste. Wieland can sing, but I've never thought he was anything like Vedder. I think Vedder and Cornell were better artists AND frontmen for their groups. Weiland was a great frontman, but obviously had his demons.

AIC and all of Chris Cornell's groups were never bands that I was a super fan of. I liked that music, but to be honest I was a bit young, so it's not like I had all the albums and such. STP and PJ just stuck more, but always still respected those other groups. I do remember doing a project on solar eclipse's in 5th grade and I videoed a solar eclipse with my dad's help. The background music we put to it when I showed it to the class was Black Hole Sun .

What's funny is that I guess I was younger for Staley and we all expected Weiland to eventually OD. This one kind of stings because it's like that entire genre is dying off. Just makes me feel old and like that was all in the past. Kind of a sad feeling as I've never thought of it like that really.

Now as to comparing this to Creed and Nickleback.....just stop....please....

I kind of bristle at Cornell being eulogized as just a grunge frontman. He was so much more than that.

If you can't hear the PJ influence in Creed and Nickleback then I don't know what to say. STP ripped them off too but at least they did a good job.
