Well, he made Billie Jean sound incredible . . .

And imagine his vocals on Losing My Religion

Very upset by this. About to play Jesus Christ Pose and Say Hello to Heaven. Jam some Cochise later, intro to that song is incredible.

Very sad. Lithium 34 all weekend.

**this whole thing seems odd given he just did a show and had another one set for Friday. Anything further on the autoerotic asphyxiation theory? No more embarrassing way to go if that's the case.

We were there....it was an awesome show and Cornell sure didn't seem 52 years old...

Dang, just read about it elsewhere. Staple of my college days. Rest in peace, Chris Cornell.

Been listening to the acoustic version of Like Suicide all morning in my office.....beautiful and haunting. Just amazing 4 octave vocals.

Yeah, he probably would have killed that one.

I think Alternative is just such a ridiculously large genre that to say one singer is the best is just tough considering how diverse the musical styles can be. Cornell dis have supremely impressive range though

The thought of hearing him sing Orange Crush gives me literal goose-bumps.

Remembering now that the KLSU metal show during my time at LSU was called The Rusty Cage. :(

Isn't that how the INXS guy died?

You misunderstood me. I didn't mean the last ALIVE I meant last chronologically in music history. There hasn't been a successful frontman who has come out since Cornell to do the full-on Rock God vocals. Cornell and Soundgarden bridged the gap between '80s rock which still very much prized stratospheric vocalists and 90s grunge and alternative which basically killed that for good in terms of POPULAR music.

You could not be more wrong. There were plenty of great vocalists in the 90's, like Cornell, Staley, Vedder, Kevin Martin and several others.

It just wasn't the totally homogenized, showoff music that 80's glam rock was. That's why it came into being. It was a break away from that.

The final encore for Soundgarden's set last night in Detroit was "Slaves and Bulldozers" with Led Zeppelin's "In My Time of Dying" interspersed as the refrain...something they hadn't done on the tour.

In the final song he ever performed, Chris Cornell was cluing everybody in on what was about to happen. Freaky.
