YouTube
Riot Games cofounder Marc Merrill had his neighbors and father in law band together to help protect each others homes in the Palisades fire.
His 70 year old FIL brought a pump and hose to use their pool’s water to fight the fire.
He takes journalist on a tour around his property describing what all they did and how they organized.
Very interesting video about the area and how they stayed and fought the fire.

This ain’t the Olympics, baw.
You’d have about twenty posters asking for more context. It’s not really a spoiler.
Can’t make everyone happy.

I was thinking about pools yesterday and how effective that would be to fight fires around your house. Doesn’t seem sustainable if they’re raging but it seemed like a decent idea if you’re still able to be there and try to manage damage (without having to evacuate).

We have a large 3.5 acre pond and had the FD out to the house today to make sure they could get through our winding driveway. They maneuvered the truck in and then said "this is perfect. We can feed the truck water from your pond."
Thought hadn't occurred to me until then.

Why are you having the fd check to see if they can get to your house or somewhere on your land? Do you live in California and are you just pre planning for potential wildfire?

Get a scuba tank and mask in case the fire wins you can stay under until it passes, maybe.

Stretching alone won't relieve tightness, as it turns out

No. We have a private road leading to our house and are redoing the entrance and before we put new stone facades up we needed to make sure a fire truck would have no problem getting to us.
My wife knows several people in the FD so they did a courtesy visit today to make sure their trucks could fit through the entrance.

You can be a frogman. Doesn't mean you'll handle boiling as good as the frog

You’re right, it was a very interesting video! You can almost tell the dude is something like a computer programmer, because his way of thinking is very liner and deliberate….
Trouble is, he insinuates that others not evacuate in natural disasters and we know how that usually turns out.
