The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is ending its iconic elephant acts.
The circus' parent company, Feld Entertainment, told The Associated Press exclusively that the acts will be phased out by 2018. Growing public concern about how the animals are treated led to the decision.

I don't like much of anything about PETA but I really do not like the circus either - I'd like to see both of them disappear.

Can't they do something about getting rid of those freaky arse clowns?

"When they came for the elephants, I said nothing, because I owned no elephants."

I went backstage one time and saw where they were keeping the animals. I mean, they didn't exactly look happy.

I'm in favor of this.
Too many, who don't care enough for the animal welfare, try to make money off animals.

I've seen this too and it's why I dislike the circus and will not go to one. I've seen and treated many animals for injuries/self mutilation/stress related issues that were a result of just occasional transportation. A lot of animals, especially large ones, do not like to be transported. I can't and don't want to imagine what happens to an animal that is constantly in transportation.
Even humans in constant transportation are often miserable - and they choose the life style and have all the comforts that we have come to expect.

Went to the Ringling Bros. circus just a couple months ago at the United Center. We were so excited to bring my son to his first circus.
That shite was depressing. The wife was actually crying...we left during intermission. My son only liked the lights anyways.

Good. I fully believe Ringling Bros probably loves the animals they use, but it's still a bad situation.
Hell, half the zoos I've been to depress me.

Seriously. I've seen it first hand too many times as well. Screw circuses. Their treatment of animals is nothing short of abuse in many cases.

As long as they don't end the donkey shows.

I'm going to boycott the circus if they don't have elephants
As it is, it costs me $270 to bring my family of 4 there

I feel like I see heavily discounted circus advertisements every time I turn around, but I haven't gone so maybe it's a sham.

I bet it's an economic thing.. Keeping elephants cannot be cheap... Today, with shows like Cirque Du Soleil, elephants are a thing of the past..

that and they are using it as a stunt to get a farewell tour going most likely.
